WHY I HATE F*ING FORDS!!!
So this morning, I'm driving on my way to work, in Dean's F-150. He let me borrow it over the weekend so that I could move all of my rims and crap out of my work stall to my house. He told me he's going to be back on Wednesday, and asked if I could put a new A/C compressor in it for him. No problem! I figure I'll bring it to work today, (Wednesday) and slap the compressor in on my lunch break.
Well, as I pull up to the stop light at Longley and McCarran, I notice that the opposing light is yellow, and that mine will soon be green, so I put it in first gear and leave my foot on the clutch for the moment. All of a sudden, I notice that I'm creeping forward toward the back of the car in front of me! WTF!!!??? I pull it back out of gear really quick, and press and release the clutch pedal a couple of times, nothing. No clutch. So nothing. I assume there's a fluid leak, as after a couple pumps, with minimal pressure, the f*ing pedal just drops to the floor, and won't come back. Now's the part I really love, where I get out to push a FULL SIZE truck out of the street, and everyone nearby, sitting in their cars, and jogging down the street, sees NO reason whatsoever that they might give me a hand. I hate people. So, Dean, if you're reading this, your truck is parked, legally at least, on the corner of Spring Dr. and Longley, with no clutch. Lucky for you, I know a good mechanic who'll be happy to help you fix it! I then had to walk back home, luckily not too far, and get my car so I could haul ass to make it to work at my usual time. And this after spending 12 hours here yesterday, as Sperry and I didn't leave until 7 doing his tires last night... I'm tired now. |
Wow man that stinks. At least it happened at a place where you could safely put the car.
|
And I suppose on the upside you got your rims moved before that happened.
|
Yeah, Dean's clutch system leaks. :) nice of him to tell you. Just fill it up and it will work for a while. If you're lucky there's a bottle of brake fluid in there somewhere.

OH YOU'RE F*ING KIDDING ME! Too late for that now. I didn't have time to check it out, as I had to walk back home to get my car so I wasn't late for work! Yeah, I got all the rims and stuff moved on Saturday, so no worries there. |
Hey at least you don't have to replace the clutch now right?
|
You should pull some parts off the truck and sell them for compensation
|
|
I figured it was a leak, but I didn't know it was a KNOWN problem! The way it lost pressure, it made sense to me that it sprung a leak, or blew the clutch line, so I wasn't afraid that I'd have to change the clutch or anything, but it still sucked! I was so concerned with getting to work, and didn't figure I could fix it on the side of the road with no tools anyway, so I just left it!
Dean, you will be receiving a swift kick in the stones for not telling me this... |
Silly Cory, "Fix Or Repair Daily" and "Found On Road Dead" come to mind.
And thanks again for all your help yesterday... the car is rediculous with those 255's on it. I'd really like to go play and find out what sort of traction it's got, but I'm afraid it's going to rub the 1st time I push it... so I'm waiting on the new stiffer rear springs that will allow me to raise the car an inch higher before pushing it. Plus it's still kinda wet out. :( I owe you drinks and dinner at the next meet for sure man! |

Damn. Any suggestions?
|
I can get the Titan and tow it to the shop for you, It won't be the first time I've pulled a Ford with the Nissan.

If Nick can get it up here, we can try to get it out to the autocross. |
Cool, thanks Scott. I'd be glad to pitch in for the rental.

Well, apparently all I need to do is put more fluid in it, and pump it back up, and it should drive, according to Kevin, but good lookin' out dude! |
CRAP... I am so sorry...
I filled it before dropping it off, and it usually lasts a couple weeks. I beleive it is the slave cylinder, and was told it is on top of the tranny, and it takes like 3 hours to get to because you have to practically drop the transmission to get to it... But that could be BS. So I keep a bottle in the door to top it off. Damn, now I really owe you... Then again, if you moved you stuff over the weekend, why are you driving it today? Using up my gas? :) I'll go see if I can move it at about 4:00 and bring it to the shop if you can give me a ride back to my car when you are done with work. Again, really sorry. |
If your old F-series 5 speed is similar to my dad's old Ranger 4x4 5 speed, yeah, the clutch slave is a bitch. Tanny has to be dropped.

Drove it home from here on Sat, with my crap in it, and it sat there until this morning, at which time it only made about a 6 block trip, so don't worry about your gas!!
Unless somebody's siphoning it out as we speak... |
Again, I'm sorry, and should have told you about the clutch. The night I dropped it off was kind of F'ed up, and time got short and I forgot.
And just so everyone doesn't think I'm more of an ass than they already do... I was kidding about the gas if you didn't see the smiley, and I specifically said Cory could use the truck to move his crap, without any expectation of compensation. I planned on paying Cory his normal hourly rate for the AC work. Now I think it's going to be a bit more expensive... Maybe a large beer on thursday? :) |
Too late Dean, I'm already buying him drinks.
|
YAY! Free food and beverage for me! So, who's driving me home when I get shit-faced? J/K! I'm really just glad to help out guys. I do like feeling like I actually bring something to the group, other than just a bunch of e-shit talking!
Dean, no hard feelings man! I know we got all f'd up on Thursday night, being here longer than expected and all, so don't worry about it! If you wanna blame someone, blame Jeremiah for being late last thursday! :P I kid, I kid! |
Hey, don't drag me in to these shenanigans. . .
 |

Damn bro that sucks big time :( at least you made it back to work on time :) and i've hated fords since i drove one (was my first car at 16, 1987 ford escort) |
I had a Mercury Zephyr, so there!
|
We got it moved. Just low on juice. I was giving Cory shit about why he didn't just power shift the bitch... He claims it wouldn't come out of 1st... So why not just drive it to work in first?
He did some in his RS on the way back to get my car, but thems aint a truck! Maybe our in house mother trucker could show him how its done. ;) And since Jeremiah is trying to stay out of it... [BS announcer voice]You make the call... 1. 1/2 an hour plus late 2. Forgot the proprietary tools that came with the coilovers to do the job 3. On a meet night. Foul, or no foul, YOU MAKE THE CALL... :) [/BSAV] j/k It was my fault, just trying to divert attention... |
Hey, I originally said 5PM, and then agreed to try and make it around 4:30. Since we're shifting attention, I blame my wife for finishing work late. :P
|
I dunno about all you other guys, but the times I've borrowed Dean's truck I've been really thankful to him for the loan.

I can shift anything with nipples....wait, what? I goofed that up... Anyway, the only time I've ever driven Dean's truck was when I made a gas run from the Lovelock Airport to Lovelock while towing Debbies Car on the trailer :( . It ran good, but I didn't use the clutch a lot. |
shifting with out the clutch is more fun, right before i went to sell my WRX i decided it was a good time to figure out how that works ;) (that called power shifting ? ) a mechanic friend of mine showed on his honda before and said its not bad for it, they had to shift a tranny with out a clutch in class . (well depending on the rev range and rev matching its not overly harmful is what he told me) :?:
when you have it rev matched well it just sucks it in, no clue how you'de start a car from a standstill with no clutch though.. |

Power shifting is applying throttle before the clutch is completely engaged, so the car car accelerates as the clutch syncs. It's normally used by drag racers, and (like just about everything drag related) it's really hard on the drivetrain. I've been known to have a little bit of an issue w/ power shifts, but mine tended to punish the clutch because I've always been a little bitch when it comes to dropping the clutch. It's probably why I couldn't hold 198awhp in 5th gear on my stock clutch after only 40,000 miles.

ah okay i wasn't power shifting my old Rex, just [insert fancy term ] no clutching shifting with out noises / kicks/ surges. 2-3k rpm range.
power shifting does sound a bit rough on things |

When I lost the old throwout bearing in the 73 Chev, me and powershifting got up close and personal, didnt help that the pilot bearing went at the same time. It was almost as fun as when I lost my rear drive line on the same truck at about 45 miles an hour..that was like a rodeo ride! |

edit: ok ok I feel sorry for Cory that the situation happened, it sucks. Hopefully Dean can get it fixed because the F150 has been such a useful vehicle. |
It wasn't that big of a deal. I wasn't really running late, just running so I WASN'T late! I always leave early specifically so if something goes wrong, I've got plenty of time to handle it and still get to work on time!
I dunno why the truck didn't like me yesterday! I've shifted a ton of trannys without the clutch, and fairly well know what I'm doing, but that sucker wouldn't change gears for anything! I could barely get it out of first even sitting still! Ford's don't like me... I AM really appreciative that Dean let me borrow it to move that stuff as well. Other wise I would have had to take a drive to Red Rock and get my old man's truck, and then all the way back to town for 15 minutes of work, and back again. It was VERY cool of Dean to offer his vehicle to me! Most people aren't willing to help another person out like that. Really, SECCS has turned out to be a great group altogether, and I'm glad I've found myself here! |
Cory's always early to work, I know cause I see him every morning at 6:50am standing by his car when I drive by on my way to work.
Oh and if you ever need a truck again, feel free to borrow mine. You won't have to worry about it breaking down, oh wait...it's also a Ford! |
Ford's don't seem to like me. :(
maybe it's because I'm black... Ha! Race card always on standby! |

I do appreciate the offer as well dude! |
