I'm going if I can find a hauler for the event. I'm not naieve enough to think I can drive the WRX all the way to Hawthorne, race for two days, and be able to drive all the way back.

It's tough, there's always competition for our time and our drivers on Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully Reno Region will be able to put together some good runs this year, considering LV is out to get us, (or at least our trophy).

Wow, their pretty bitter about that street tire PAX. How funny.....

This made me laugh------> "what it boils down to is.... vegas has better drivers than reno....they just have more people."

This person is clearly a statistician... :)

What it boils down to is of the people who attend, our average driver is better than there average driver.

Well I'm out until I can get the Syclone fixed or find a substitute car. I missed the 3-4 points events due to my transmission exploding it's 5 pinon cluster for the 2nd time.

Weak... I know how much it sucks to miss events 'cause the car's down. Good luck getting it fixed! Is there a way to "upgrade" the tranny to make it more bullet-proof?

My 700R4 is maxed out on upgrades. It was the sinister GM powdered metal that fragged. Nothing better available. I'm done with the 700R4.

Now I have a dilemma.

Run a large bulletproof tranny like the 4l80E and risk it shifting like a pig, although there is a nice electronic tiptronic paddle shift option or find a way to integrate a Viper spec T-56 6 speed manual. Still a risk of breaking hard parts with the mighty AWD and torque of the Syclone. The engine's power band is very narrow and I would lose the trademark "air craft carrier" launch the Syclone is know for since I wouldn't be able to shift fast enough and remain in the power band.

Thinking of building another crazy unusual car or buy a cheap mazda 323 gtx, or maybe even pop for a Lotus Exige if I want to put myself into the poor house. (I hear rumors of a super charged Exige in 07. I would love the Noble M400, but that's way more than I want to spend.

Could be worse, he could be driving a Syclone with a bunch of custom built parts that have no replacements. Oh wait.

That sucks so bad, but at least the 323 was sold here in the states so its still easier to find parts for than my motor:(

So Pete, Tim, myself, and possibly Lauren are coming out

Bob Danger 2006-05-15 04:14 PM

They still have not announced a run order yet have they?

Usually at hawthorne there are 3 groups, you have to work 1 session, run 1 session, and get 1 session off. You usually don't find out until the morning of the first day what the schedule is.

Bob Danger 2006-05-15 05:05 PM

Would you guys suggest leaving Friday night or early Saturday morning?

Kevin M 2006-05-15 05:21 PM

Friday night for sure.

I'm going, Kevin did you check out room prices?

No need to check on anything, rooms are blocked for SCCA at $38 per night. You just have to mention you need the SCCA rate when you call, all the hotel info is listed here.

That's just fancy internet speak, means For The Win. Not a special type of 323.

Do Novice Drivers factor into the total (time average / pax / whatever ) for the North vs South challenge?

Nick Koan 2006-05-16 10:21 AM

Will there even be a novice class at Hawthorne? If so, then that'd be interesting to find out.

Nick Koan 2006-05-16 10:24 AM

Oh, and I'm in. Holding down FSP for the Reno region.

If there is a novice class, no. But I think they will just class novices as RNP, since you can only run one run group anyway.

A1337STI 2006-05-16 11:34 AM

Oh so RNP is an option :) If i can drive in STU and then switch back to Novice for following events in stead , I'de like to do that. If most or some of the Reno guys are really searious about trying to win , I'll just go RNP as to not mess up the average times.

Kevin M 2006-05-16 11:40 AM

If your first choice is novice, then I would run RNP. But feel free to run for points if you want man, you're not going to cost us victory all by yourself. ;) But heck, you might as well run STU from here on out. I think any of you guys running novice this year that have decided you're going to make most or all of the remaining events might as well go for points and get experience in your class.

Kevin M 2006-05-16 11:43 AM

Hmm, I just noticed that Allon registered in SS with a Z06. Interesting.

sperry 2006-05-16 11:47 AM

If you're going to Hawthorne, run in a points class. It's chickenlshit to inflate our average by insulating our novices in no-points classes. IMO, anyone that goes should run for points. If you look at the results from the last few years, it's been our new drivers that have made the difference in the challenge, since our noobs tend to be faster than there noobs.

A1337STI 2006-05-16 01:41 PM

Sweet. Noob vs Noob racing, it doesn't get any more exciting (or slower) then that :D
Think i'll sign up tomorrow (payday)

Nick Koan 2006-05-16 01:42 PM

You don't have to pay till the weekend of the race. But you should still register and reserve your hotel room asap.

I found this post rather interesting. It would seem that they are using me as an example. Only I think they got the event number wrong.

""Looking at their results, I already know the answer to this one. Those on street tires are grouped with their normal class and then the multiplier is used to place them within that class. A T is simply placed in front of the class. In their round #1, the AS winner was on street tires(TAS). His raw time was slower, but after the multiplier he had the class win.

If I had my usual street tires, I would consider running them, but unfortunatly one of my 315's was sliced and that tire has been on back order for 4 months. I'm forced to run my usuall front tires on the rear (275's), and some junk that I had lying around (255's) on the front untill BFG makes some more of the G-Force KD's in 315. On top of it being terrible for grip, since I converted the car to Grand Sport specs, and it's a Z-51 car, tires that small aren't legal in stock class because I can't stretch them onto an 11" rim. I'm going to try to get some 315's so Vicki can run street tire up there.""

Kevin M 2006-05-16 07:13 PM

I love how they attribute the street tire class wins to the tires, and not the drivers. I would heartily encourage all the LVR drivers who normally run Hoosiers or Kumhos to hop onto their street tires for the first time at this event, especially since most of them don't have top-notch street tires. :D

tysonK 2006-05-16 07:47 PM

I'm with them, street tires are ruining autocross.

Just make sure that is the weekend you let me RNP you're car. :D

NevadaSTi 2006-05-17 02:48 PM

maybe I should post a paypal link so that you guys can make a tire fund donation. I could probably come up with a 501.c3 tax exempt number so that you guys can take a tax deduction from the donation.

A1337STI 2006-05-19 08:36 AM

Let's form a tax exempt Church dedicated to tires. maybe we could all just divert our income into there and avoid paying taxes. I can't see that going bad or anything....
