June 24-25 Solo event

News flash: It's going to be crazy hot out there on the tarmac. Forecasts are for 100+ both days, so bring what you need- sunscreen, floppy hat, folding chair, yadda yadda. At least we won't have no grip from cold tires... we'll have no grip from hot tires!

NevadaSTi 2006-06-22 02:20 PM

Not gonna make it, 100% broke.

Pat R. 2006-06-22 03:01 PM

I may bring the kart out for some PM RNP action.

M3n2c3 2006-06-22 05:36 PM

Zoiks. I'll only be able to make Sunday because of f$&@ing work.

Joeyy 2006-06-22 06:09 PM

Cough, cough, cough. Dude you sound awfull and look pale. I think you should call in sick and the doctor prescribes a hot day autocrossing at Stead. :D

M3n2c3 2006-06-25 01:14 PM

Good course today. I had fun.

Dean 2006-06-25 05:47 PM

Today flowed better than yeterday IMHO. Lots of fun. Though I don't yet know where I ended up.

Saturday's course would have been much better with the Miata, or STI gearing. And, Yes, I am complaing even with a top 10 PAX Sat. in the WRX. :P

I'll post some results if Mike gets them to me tonight.

You'll have to wait one more day. I ended up helping pack cones into the bus, which caused me to nearly die, which caused me to not do the results.

MikeK 2006-06-25 06:46 PM

On a related note, my outside temp thing on the dash read 103 as I was driving home

cody 2006-06-25 06:50 PM

Today was sweet. I couldn't pull it together yesterday, but I was really happy with the course today.

I'm glad we got out of there before this wind storm came through. I'm looking out my window and there's big clouds of dust blowing around.

103 deg w/ sandstorms... what's it like living in hell?

Bob Danger 2006-06-25 09:28 PM

It was crazy hot, what really sucked was working station 3... alone! I've never chased so many cones in my life. I had to call in down cones, chase them, watch for plains on that taxiway, and on coming carrs at the same time.

that sucks for you.

Yah, I thought 3 sucked too. 4 was just scary though, with cars coming at you from opposite sides, often simultaneously.

MPREZIV 2006-06-26 06:28 AM

Station 5 on Saturday sucked ass. I was RUNNING... [/forrest gump]

That track on Sarturday was f*ing AWESOME! I don't know what the deal was, but my car was perfect that day! I can't believe the times I was able to put down! Good weekend!

Yeah, I liked how the track drove both days, but there were a few issues from a logistical/operations standpoint, like most stations having huge areas to cover, and the bus being in awful position for seeing the staging cars both days.

Yeah, there were some hairy points out there. Like Bobby said, there were often times where you had cars coming at you at *high* speeds, from both directions!

cody 2006-06-26 08:21 AM

When do we get to see results?

Kevin M 2006-06-26 08:57 AM

If not tonight, then probably not for a couple weeks according to Mike.

cody 2006-06-26 08:58 AM

...a couple weeks? :(

Kevin M 2006-06-26 09:35 AM

Feel free to volunteer for T&S chief next season and never have to wait again. ;)

cody 2006-06-26 09:45 AM

I'll just be quiet then.

Something we tend to forget when we are not the ones owning the responsibility of some of these scca roles -- MikeK and Russ Carpenter (and John & John, the event chairs), among a handful of others, were at the site from early morning until the end of the day. In those kinds of temperatures we had this weekend, plus the problems that come up, plus the crabby people and the whiners, all = No More Fun.
On Sat. when I was swapping my street tires back on after morning runs, that caused me to nearly die, I had to stop & take a popsicle break, which saved me.

Thank You Mike, for all the help you give. But next time, some others need to help with cone packing duty.

p.s. Sorry to everyone whose corner stations were attacked by my car.

pps, and when I mention whiners, I am not pointing out anyone else but myself. I had to eat my words, or eat crow, or whatever that phrase is, when I nearly yelled at John Riggs in grid, that I hadn't had enough time between runs, before they wanted us to go again. My whininess was just ridiculous, considering everyone else had to cope with the short turnaround time as well. I can only explain myself as having gotten too impatient, too hot, and too irritable at my dnf's and cone runs. No excuse though.

But you have to admit that Mark's spin on his last run was pretty awesome. From my vantage point on the grid it rivaled Dean's big off into the taxiway two years ago.

Or, Dean's big near-off into the fence last year.

A1337STI 2006-06-26 10:50 AM

Glad everyone had fun out there. And luckily no one got heat stroke!

Everybody was a tad *irritated* after a while out there. That kind of heat out on that blacktop really just wears on you pretty quick. I'm sure everyone else is understanding if anybody got a little fed up, so to speak...

Well, H Stock Andrew skipped this event, so yeah. ;)

cody 2006-06-26 11:43 AM

Anybody know anything about the Camaro that ran in ESP on Saturday? He was putting down some decent times.

I find that a liberal amount of Gold Bond will prevent most types of *irritation* when it gets hot at Stead. :)

Date for August Event

Does anyone remember the dates for the August event?

Kevin M 2006-06-27 03:09 PM

12-13, almost for certain.

MattR 2006-06-27 06:31 PM

Yep. 12 and 13 of Aug at Squaw Valley.

Dean 2006-06-27 10:26 PM

Results & Season standings posted to www.RenoSCCA.com

cody 2006-06-27 10:50 PM

:liljon: Thanks y'all.

You kicked a lot of non-Novice ass too.

It wasn't just novice ass you kicked ... look at the raw times page for Saturday, and look at all the non novice people you are ahead of! You beat WRX's, STis, porshes and corvettes! You just need a theme song and then you can run for points ;)

Edit: cody beat me to it!

MikeK 2006-06-28 08:19 AM

In other news, the battle of the WRX wagons was fun to watch over the weekend, with Derrick winning on Saturday, and Cody winning on Sunday.

Cody: you ran the first event as a novice. You do realise that you just have to ask and I can move your novice result over to TESP, right? ;)

That goes for all the novices here. When you switch to points, you can bring up to your last 4 novice results with you, but you have to ask me. So far only Dr Tofu has done this.

cody 2006-06-28 08:30 AM

Mike, you've got a PM. :D

The ongoing Wagon Battle does make it a lot of fun for me.

MikeK 2006-06-28 08:36 AM

I think we need a handicap system where we fill the wagons with groceries before each run

cody 2006-06-28 08:39 AM

I'll put a turkey under the hood in the morning. I'm sure it will be done by lunch time!

I was super proud on Saturday! My car was just perfect out there!

cody 2006-06-28 09:35 AM

Cory, what class would your car be in if you weren't in Novice? TDSP?

On a side note, I noticed that Vick Chalk is running in TDSP in his 05 Mini Cooper S? Didn't he used to be in SM?

Kevin M 2006-06-28 09:51 AM

Yeah he used to be, and he's disappointed every weekend when his competiton (Chris, Jeremiah, and Cory) don't show up... or run in Novice. :p

Kevin M 2006-06-28 09:57 AM

Mike, weren't all those Sac folk running RNP or something? Raw lists them as RNP, but they are in PAX.

Vick's damn fast to be up against Impreza RS's, but if anyone can beat him, those guys can. :)
