Aug Auto X @ Squaw Valley

Now that it is August, I figured I could start the thread for the next event. I'm happy to have a shorter drive this month and hope everyone can come up. Here is a link to Squaw Valley. There having some music Saturday night up at high camp. http://www.squaw.com/summer/html/eventssummer.html
Also do to the event being in my back yard I'd be willing to burn a few burgers for lunch (Suby crowd) if you all would like. Let me know if anyone is interested and I'll plan on cooking. :)

MikeK 2006-08-03 03:27 PM

Paging doubleurx ... I expect to see you at this event!

Joeyy 2006-08-03 03:31 PM

I need his address so I could do a drive by....12a.m. with vroom vroom come out and play

M3n2c3 2006-08-03 03:36 PM

I won't make it to this one. :(

Bob Danger 2006-08-03 03:53 PM

I'm looking at Sway Valley on Google Earth, and I'm wondering which lot the event is going to be held in. Anyone know?

Joeyy 2006-08-03 03:59 PM

At the SCCA meeting I had a chance to look at the course map. Village East is the new bridge from Squaw Valley Road. Village East is the western edge of our area. If you can see the funky shaped biulding at the east end of the lot, your looking at the east edge of our area. The north edge is deliniated by the cement barrier wall along the creek between the parking lot and Squaw Vally Road. The South edge of the area is over by all the parked heavy equipment that is already been moved back. I drove through the parking lot today but did not stop. There is a shead in the middle of the course, drains and a light pole base without a light pole. Hope that answers your question but I should not type and drink.... :P

Jeremiah, you need to make at least one day. You are poised to move into second in your class. Time to let one of the other emplyees be manager for the day or assistant for the day. Maybe they'll do a good job or well....there is always fire insurance.

M3n2c3 2006-08-03 05:13 PM

Weekend work isn't the whole problem this time. Our run group is in the morning both days.

Saturday's out no matter what due to work - even if I'm not working Saturday, I still normally need to close my store on friday night. There's no way I could get home and catch enough sleep in order to make it out there saturday morning since I'm looking at a 2+ hour drive each way.

Sunday we have my wife's baby shower and other family-related events. I could probably skip out on those, but there's one other issue. . .

. . .the extra early wake-up. I don't think I can swing that. Since I'd want to be there around 7:30, I'd have to leave home around 5AM. That means waking up at 4AM.

If our run groups were in the afternoon, I'd be there on Sunday. I really enjoy autox, but four or five runs are not worth getting up at 4AM. I'm sure Squaw will be fun, but from my position it's a pretty lousy choice.

I'll be at Lovelock for sure next month. I owe it payback for last year.

Dean 2006-08-03 05:23 PM

The site.. Zoom out for more of a map...

Ok, Ok., Where do I sign up, what do I need? I can do Saturday, but Sunday I have to pick my kids up from camp. Could somebody PM me the details of what I need to take care of before the event?

Nick

Kevin M 2006-08-03 09:52 PM

Just kick the tires and light the fires. ;)

Okay, all you really need to do is make sure your lug nuts are torqued properly, check all of your fluid levels, check your wheel bearings for play, and make sure your tires aren't corded. Also make sure your positive battery terminal is covered, and take those two big bottles out of the trunk. :p

MikeK 2006-08-04 06:42 AM

What Kevin said, then just show up! Go to the registration table first and register, then get your car inspected (there is usually a big tech line), then walk the track a few times to try and memorise it.

If you want to drive in the morning, show up around 7:30, you will be done by about 12 - 12:30. If you want to drive in the afternoon, show up around 11 - 11:30, you will be done by 4:30 - 5:00.

You can also drive both morning and afternoon.

I say leave them in!

doubleurx 2006-08-04 08:27 AM

Alright, bottles are mounted, but what about roof racks? Do I need to remove them? They are mounted to the factory mounts and as sturdy as the wagons racks.

Oh that reminds me, I need to get all my vinyl mounted and my nitrous purger installed ASAP!

Tech will probably ask you to remove some or all of the roof-rack.

Dean 2006-08-08 05:07 PM

The Miata is fixed... Be afraid, be very afraid.

Small tight course with lots of twisties...

I can almost taste the top 5 PAX... Altitude, shmaltitude...

Maye I'll go up and help John set the course Friday. <snicker snicker>

Oh, and it wasn't fuel related... Cam position sensor...

rubberbiscuitt 2006-08-08 09:25 PM

no babysitter=no saturday for me...
but on sunday, hwy 89 south tahoe to north should be great at 5am. hopefully no lookie-loos, or tiped over tanker trucks at that hour.

NevadaSTi 2006-08-09 08:44 AM

I noticed that the White run group is in the morning on Sat. and the afternoon on Sunday. Since I am AS and in the white group, I was wondering if I could run in the morning on Sunday? As I have a niece's birthday party to go to at 2pm on Sunday.

Nick Koan 2006-08-09 09:07 AM

You can Run-No-Points in the morning on Sunday.

NevadaSTi 2006-08-09 09:21 AM

Why would I want to RNP? I have to catch Pat for first place.

To get points, you have to run in the same rungroup as the rest of your class, so therefore if you want to run in the morning (and your class is scheduled for the afternoon), you can't run for points.

Um, if you don't run for the fun of it, why do you come out at all? Running RNP is more fun than not running at all... which is why people do it.

Ok, so what if I run the afternoon on Sunday, but cut out after my run run group? Would you all bitch, moan, cry, and yell RTFRB at me?

Basically, I am begging you guys. I need to catch Pat, but I also need to be a 2 ear olds birthday party.

Nick Koan 2006-08-09 09:35 AM

Talk with the organizers. Sometimes you can make a deal with them (like work in the morning).

(As Debbie says below, this only happens occasionally due to extrenuating circumstances)

You have to work as well as run, and your scheduled work group would be after you run (I'm in the same boat). OCCASIONALLY "they" have made an exception to this rule and allowed someone to work in an alternate work group - such as working in the morning. More compelling than 'having to go to a birthday party' are things like going to work, having to be at a hospital, you know, survival type things as opposed to alternate entertainment ...

It might go a long ways towards hearing 'yes', if you were to also help with setup on Sat. or Sun a.m., or takedown on Sat. after the event. Just some thoughts...

Dean 2006-08-09 10:07 AM

People have even been known to be allowed to run for oints on th other end of the day with the approval of the competitiors in their calss, and the event organizers.

Again, organizing it beforehand is key, so start emailing, and calling if that is what you want to do.

NevadaSTi 2006-08-09 12:42 PM

Well guys, I was posting in here because I know my compitetion is on these forums also. Plus I don't mind working in the morning to make up for my absence in the afternoon.

Oh well, I know I would be racing this weekend for a while, and I just got word last night about the Birthday party. So, oh well. I will show up late to the party.

Nick Koan 2006-08-09 12:51 PM

Yeah, a few A-Stock competitors are here, but the orgainzers aren't really. I think its John Evans for this event. Right?

I think giving him a call or shooting him an e-mail would be your best bet.

Yeah, but the ones that count are here. Pat and Tyson. IDK if Tyson is even doing it anymore.

Kevin M 2006-08-09 03:54 PM

Yeah, but technically everyone is your competitor because of PAX. Also, it would be the Event Chair's call, not the entrants'.

Seriously. Even if you did convince us, Brian, you'd still need to convince the event chairs.

cody 2006-08-09 04:02 PM

I give you permission.

doubleurx 2006-08-10 08:59 AM

So, what time do noobs like me need to check in / tech?

cody 2006-08-10 09:02 AM

I asked the same thing once.

Dean 2006-08-10 09:07 AM

Or no later than 8:30 to be safe is the short version. :)

And if you go to www.RenoSCCA.com and go to the Solo (Autocross) tab, there are a couple good documents that tell you kind of what to expect.

doubleurx 2006-08-10 09:12 AM

Thanks.

NevadaSTi 2006-08-10 10:09 AM

Its no big deal. I'll run my time slot and work when I am suppost to. I called the sister in law and found out that there really isn't any reason to come at 2pm unless I have my son with me. Since he is with the ex-wife right now, its no big deal for me to be that around 6pm or so.

cody 2006-08-11 12:11 PM

I just found out my car won't be fixed today after all. Bummer.

Kevin M 2006-08-11 12:16 PM

Gee, sounds like you need to get a co-drive in ESP...

cody 2006-08-11 12:18 PM

:P

Alex offered to let me drive his rental N/A Legy on Saturday...
