What is New Era? Not the hats...

I won't assume everybody knows what I'm talking about. The New Era I speak of is a club or a group or something of "car enthusiasts" that have the words NEW ERA vinyled on the side of their cars. That is all I know about it.

I also know these things:
-They drive fast most of the time
-They rev on me when I'm at gas stations
-They have A LOT of SRT-4s (good or bad however you see it)
-They rice out STi's :(
These are all very generalized statements as I know almost nothing about these dudes.

So, I just want to know, is New Era a company that sponsors cars? Is it a shop? Does New Era make parts? Why does it attract ricer-type younger males? I couldn't find any related websites (found neweraimports.com but that is a europe base business).

I'd probably take them seriously if they didn't always try to race me or rev on me or do blow bys. I don't want no beef! My car doesn't have enough hp's to start some beef!

*i am aware having a slow car and a carbon fiber hood can be considered rice. i'm sorry but don't care.

bye.

M3n2c3 2006-08-18 08:11 AM

I'm pretty sure it's just a club of guys who have way too much disposable income and less than a full clue between the lot of them.

If I'm not mistaken, a few have shown up at autox.

And Jonny, technically your car came with a cf hood, so don't fret.

left footed whooten 2006-08-18 08:14 AM

Yeah, I've seen them. Generally asshats. I saw a fat chick driving the blue STI, and I've had the silverSTI push up on me an provide general asshattery on 395. I've also seen the neons, and I just wonder where they get cash for these cars for one, bacause they seem to all look like kids, taco bell managers, and those 'car clubs' who get rousted out of the downtown Dairy Queen parking lot on theweekends for loitering. I think they look stupid and act stupid. I do, however, want to know what their story is.....

Kevin M 2006-08-18 08:21 AM

You guys pretty much have it down. Local Street Ricer crew.

Dean 2006-08-18 08:21 AM

Classy little SECCS stickers vs. Big Vinyl New Era, what else is there to say?

left footed whooten 2006-08-18 08:25 AM

I used to see a blue neon SRT with a ghetto New Era sticker, crooked of course, a year or two ago in the Sands parking lot on my way to UNR every day. I wondered...was he a janitor or what?

*thanks.

MPREZIV 2006-08-18 09:51 AM

NEW ERA= A bunch of d*ck head street racers. I've met a few of them personally, and it was everything I had to not trounce on them...

Me: Hey dude, nice STI!

New Era Jerk: Psssh! Your shit's not even turboed!

Me: F*ck off then!

What's German for, "d'oh!"

Haven't a few shown up at autox? The ones that show up with groupies and make lots of noise like it's a party or something?

murphy 2006-08-18 10:54 AM

There is that new era "wanna be street racing crew" and there was a shop in town once upon a time called NEAC new era auto creations but they have since gone down the flusher. ...I had a personal run in with a few of them while riding my R6.....they reved when they were next to me and tried to get me to race..I just laughed at him and asked him if he was F*cking stupid when we were at a light.

Yeah I don't underfreakinstand it. The rev on anybody it seems like. If I wasn't against man-on-car violence I'd throw bricks at them.

Ezdno 2006-08-18 12:19 PM

I have seen about 4 of them in SV, White Neon, White, Silver and Blue STi's. Then always just wave at me, no revvin or nothing. I see there is a Red Neon in the parking lot at the Marine Recruiting Office by where I work.
But your right they are all just punk kids.

DARKSTI 2006-08-18 12:39 PM

I have had at least 2 of the SRT4's give me a flyby or get up right on my ass and do 100+ through heavy traffic.

Dude, you know we don't have the hp to tote bricks.

A friend of mine said that New Era is a pretty big club of asshats. He said he saw some New Era running around in AZ when he was down visiting his brother. I couldn't imagine putting that much crap on my car to be in a club.

rubberbiscuitt 2006-08-22 11:36 AM

when i was in az i built a roll bar in an mr2 for a guy that may have been in that new era thing. he had little stickers though. and the other guys that lived with him had those big stickers on their accords, and other hondas.

I ended up talking to a bunch of the New Era guys for an hour or so once. They were all really nice, I think they are just a little clueless as to what should and shouldn't be done to a car and the appropriate avenues to race.

My question is, how do we introduce appropriate avenues of racing to them? I suspect there's no coolness to be found in autox, track days and such, whereas street racing is thrilling and dangerous and earns them the respect of their peers. It's too bad though, when things like this happen.

17 y/o, what a freaking shame. My son John was telling me he went over to Circuit City last week, where some New Era guys were, among others, running in a street race until everyone was told to leave - quick. He had heard 2 racers got in an accident when a 3rd driver from a side street ran a redlight, and ran into them. It sounds like the same incident.

It's been tried, and they look at you with a hazy eyed, open mouthed, deer in headlights stare... "you mean, race LEGALLY? Why?"

I've gotten nothing but negativity from those guys, no matter how you try to approach them. Then it turns ugly quickly, as I don't take well to insults, and I can be a bit of an asshole...

Yeah, screw those idiots. They are obviously insecure and clueless, and I'm sure that's what brings on insults easily. I suggest blunt objects.

MPREZIV 2006-08-25 02:22 PM

And don't get me wrong, I'm sure I haven't personally come across all of the members of their "club", but the ones I've met did not leave an impression of someone I'd want anywhere that I spend any of my time...

There could be some decent folks (with bad habits) in their group, but I'VE never met them.

Well I don't really care if they are good people or not. I have only seen how some of them drive and act when they are driving. I'm sure if I had SECCS stickers all over my car and I drove like a moron people would get a bad impression of our group, not me as a person. So they might be good peoples but their retarded driving behavior (I have seen enough to get a bad impression) makes me weary of their "club" or meeting the people in it.

EXACTLY!

MattR 2006-08-25 05:09 PM

I know Andy (red wrx) hangs out with those guys, and he swears to me they are trying to change their image, but we all know how it is. In fact, a few of them were at autocross earlier this year, I thought they might try it out, but I think they like drag racing better.

They treated it like a party.

Does Andy have a bugeye? If so, he came to a party at my house a few months ago. He was a cool guy.

Bob Danger 2006-08-25 06:57 PM

Andy's not a bad guy, I know he hangs out with them, but at least he's not hardcore street racer.

My real question is, why is there a 2 page thread going on about some asshat street racng crew?

MOST street racers are asshats, not just this New Era crew, I can't go out after 9pm without having some Yetti rev on me every fifteen minutes.

Duckie 2006-08-25 07:42 PM

New era are not street racers for your information. In fact their club frowns on it just like this one. They are more about show and when they do race they keep it to the track.

From the information I got from this post and from what I've seen first hand, they are a street racing crew

They told me they were interested in auto-x and track days, but it's easy to say that. I dunno they were all really friendly with me, maybe you guys are just too uppity fucking WRX owners.

murphy 2006-08-26 07:26 PM

They can say that they are intrested in auto cross and track days all they want but the overall douchebaggery they display in the street tells me otherwise
