Ironman

Robert Downey Jr. to star in new Ironman film! I'm wasn't to thrilled, but then I realized Tony Stark was an alcoholic, so he might be able to pull it off.

JonnydaJibba 2006-10-05 07:03 AM

Ironman?!

Sweetness.

sperry 2006-10-05 08:46 AM

Why, for the love of god, does every two bit superhero comic have to make the transition to a movie? This should be a straight to DVD flick... There are only 3 superheros "big" enough to make it to a mainstream movie: SuperMan, Batman, and Spiderman. The rest... yes, even the X-men... are too small time IMO. Comics aren't that entertaining for all this crap.

Fantastic 4? Not all that fantastic.
The Hulk? Green = gay
That steaming pile with Ben Aflek? Hell, I can't even remember what superhero that was.
Even the last few Batman movies were beyond pathetic... though I never bothered to see the very latest one.

What's next, are the Wonder Twins going to get a 5 movie deal? I can't wait to see how great the ILM effects are for the Amazing Blob.

You should, "Batman Begins" was the only decent batman movie.

JonnydaJibba 2006-10-05 09:05 AM

Dude the first two Batman's with Keaton rocked! You guys are nuts. Batman Begins I thought was good too.

All the other movies you listed did suck Scott. Esp. Ben Whoflek movies. I think Ironman will be badass.

I'm the Juggernaut bitch!

Kevin M 2006-10-05 09:12 AM

The first Batman was great. The last one, even better.

Jonny, I lawled at teh Juggernaut.

Yeah, for the last few years comic books have been the darling of the movie industry. There is usually name recognition, a decent back story and almost a pre-written script of good vs. evil conflict and resolution without much work on the writer/adapter. With these, you don't need a good script to make a lot of money, just a big special effects budget and one or two big name actors. Its much easier then taking the risk on a story where its unknown if the public will accept it.

So, I think we can expect to see more of these, until we get another 10 Batman Forever's in a row.

AtomicLabMonkey 2006-10-05 09:35 AM

I also give the thumbs-up to Batman Begins. It takes it's place right beside the original Batman in my book as the only ones worth watching. Two completely different atmospheres, but both done well. Of course, I'm a sucker for dark, gritty movies so it wasn't hard to like...

Most other comic book movies are worthy of a technicolor yawn.

MPREZIV 2006-10-05 09:55 AM

Fantastic4... Jessica Alba... Movie was JUST FINE by my standards! :D

I hate to say it, but not even she could save that movie.

However, she is absolutely beautiful.

Who's the genius that put Alba in a superhero roll where her power is to be invisible? There's a fucking bottom of the pool idea.

But, she couldn't make her clothes invisible, so she had to take them off to become truly invisible. Rawr.

How about Sin City? And #2 is due next year.

I wouldn't call Sin City a "superhero comic". There are no caped and/or tights wearing do-gooders in that one by any stretch of the imagination.

Bob Danger 2006-10-05 02:38 PM

Stuff like this makes me ashamed to have been a comic book nerd, when I was younger.

I said most, not all. ;) I liked Sin City.

MattR 2006-10-06 06:10 AM

Sin City was sweet, it went a totally different direction than most of the other comic book movies.

Like showing Jessica Alba's beautiful ass.

Duckie 2006-10-06 08:57 AM

V for vendetta...doesnt get more obscure than that when it comes to comic books that will become movies.

sybir 2006-10-06 11:51 AM

If you're talking the mainstream Marvel/DC characters, sure, but V has been a classic in more of a graphic novel sense for quite some time.

Unfortunately, some of the really good graphic novels have received questionable (and heavy-handed) conversions to the silver screen, like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which was an excellent book, but suffered from the normal Hollywood BS like adding characters, etc.

I thought Hellboy was done really well and transferred well to the screen, but that was because the main actor was such a perfect fit. Same with Batman Begins; you finally got someone edgy and dark, who could actually pull off "conflicted" while also being rich ;)

Nick Koan 2006-11-06 11:00 AM

Bump.

Just got this off another forum. Its the movies Marvel has slated for the next few years.

Way too many (and too many obscure ones to boot)

Wow. I didn't know people actually liked the first F4 enough for there to be a second... how gay.

Nick Fury? The Punisher 2? Namor!? Laaaaame.

100_Percent_Juice 2008-05-02 10:15 PM

FYI parklane 16 has a DLP screening several times a day. I just saw Iron Man and it was epic.

JC 2008-05-03 08:40 AM

I saw this yesterday. It was good! Definitely worth seeing IMO. There is an extra scene after the credits if you guys want to hang around.

Dean 2008-05-03 05:44 PM

It was pretty good! I have no idea how true it is to the comic, but it was a good flick.

No batman which was probably the best recent comic based movie. Sin City was good too, but it was largely animated, sort of, not live action. The preview of Dark Knight doesn't look as good as the first new bat, and I hate these long ass previews/trailers that show 3/4 of the movie!

And I can't believe it, but they showed a preview of yet another "Hulk"... Didn't we just do that like 5-7 years ago?

Ooh, Ooh, I forgot to mention... Lots of cool Audis!!!

JonnydaJibba 2008-05-05 09:01 AM

Best comic based movie yet. Not including Batman.

So, second best ever. got it.

Kunikos 2008-05-05 01:55 PM

All the buzz lately is that this is a good movie so big ups to John Favreau. Between this and the new Batman movie life is pretty good for comic book fans who want movie adaptations. Well, I guess if you ignore the new Hulk movie coming out, which looks pretty bad.

MPREZIV 2008-05-05 04:58 PM

The new Hulk looks shit-tons better than the last one.

Kevin M 2008-05-05 06:50 PM

Metric shit-tons, or Imperial?

MPREZIV 2008-05-06 06:19 AM

Metric. There's a huge smoking crater in my memory where that Eric Bana movie landed... and he's not a bad actor, but that movie was terrible.
