<tin foil hat>Hmmm ... Subaru has press conferences scheduled for the 4th and 5th of april at the NY auto show</tin foil hat>

Nick Koan 2007-03-26 12:01 PM

Hmm, and they've been talking about debuting the new Impreza there for about 6 months now... hmmm... whatever could it be.

MPREZIV 2007-03-26 12:01 PM

Doomsday...

bxracer69 2007-03-26 12:09 PM

What's new for 2008?

sperry 2007-03-26 12:14 PM

"A legend will be reborn"!?! Finally, the 360 is back!

Everything!

(actually, no one knows since it hasn't debuted yet)

This silliness is going on at nabisco. I believe nothing.

Kevin M 2007-03-26 05:07 PM

Aren't there one or two members over there who post in News and Rumors from Cherry Hill?

left footed whooten 2007-03-26 05:19 PM

Members and/or mods....taunting bastards....

Nick Koan 2007-03-26 05:20 PM

And they've been deleting posts left and right, and other people keep posting them, and then they get deleted.

Its quite funny, actually.

sperry 2007-03-26 05:40 PM

Anyway... about the car:

I think the overall shape of the car is pretty good. I dislike the details... dumb grill, dumb tail lights, dumb fog lights, back to small brakes...

But the interior is very tidy... I like that a lot. And overall, I think there's a tremendous opportunity for a very sick STi out of that thing... imagine the hatch with some wicked big fender flares, splitters, etc.

Still, the car seems to have lost its way when you compare it to the glory of the 22b era cars... then again when you compare it to modern WRC cars, it's much more like the Citroens and Fords...

Those are all the things that make me think that these chops are rough-hewn at best. Why in the beard of Zeus would they revert back from good brakes? These have to be from the Regular Impreza model, as is the grille IMO. Overall shape I also like, but again I think we are seeing another rendering when it comes to any details.

You realize that those pictures are supposed to be of the actual car from Motor Trend's forth coming article, no? I'm willing to bet we're past doctored pictures.

Nick Koan 2007-03-26 06:39 PM

Yeah, we're a little over a week away from the unveiling. I wouldn't be surprised if Motor Trend and other magazines already got real deal press photos from Subaru along with an embargo on releasing them. If the article was really leaked, then it is very likely these are real.

wrxkidid 2007-03-26 07:33 PM

grill looks like it should be on a chrystler...

rubberbiscuitt 2007-03-26 07:41 PM

oh snap, we americans need our chrome, yo.

i'm sure this thing can grow on me. as for now i still need my sedan.

JonnydaJibba 2007-03-27 09:47 AM

Geez Louise, it's like they are trying to make them uglier and uglier.

I still think that the cake of these photos is on, but the frosting is off or embellished. Look at the passenger fog light, its crooked. The grille looks just a little wrong in angle, like it doesn't quite match the angle of the car. MT has posted wrong "official" photos before....If this is what it is, and that's just how it is, then I am even more glad I got my 06 when I did. This is bunk, but I'm sure the STI will still be awesome.

MikeK 2007-03-27 11:22 AM

As someone posted on nabisco: "if this is real, the value of my car just went up $5k!"

Don't know if this is real or not, but saw this earlier...

Nick Koan 2007-03-27 04:16 PM

That's an old render, and while it actually seems to carry a lot of the same element in the latest photos, a lot of the specific details are off. And the difference (visually at least) between the Impreza and the STi is in the details. I don't know how much we can take from that render.

From what I've been reading (and this might have changed) is that the STi isn't going to debut in NY next week. Its going to be saved for a concurrent announcement at a European or Japanese auto show in the late summer.

Kevin M 2007-03-27 07:19 PM

It is less ugly to me at first glance than the bugeyes were in 2001.

Official Subaru NYIAS Impreza & Tribeca Photos

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1235682

Nick Koan 2007-04-03 08:43 AM

Damn, the Tribeca is actually looking pretty good now.

No more quirky design.

JonnydaJibba 2007-04-03 08:48 AM

It looks better, but more like every other SUV.

And they have finally done it. They officially killed the Impreza. =(

Kevin M 2007-04-03 09:16 AM

Except for totally hating the grill and taillights, I'd rock the hatch. I'd hit it.

JonnydaJibba 2007-04-03 09:17 AM

I guess it's not so bad. The WRX sedan is kinda cool.

The only person that should be saying this is Bob becuase it definitely looks like a corolla with a hoodscoop.

Yeah it really does. Fuckin Toyota.

sperry 2007-04-03 09:55 AM

Well... my next car is going to be an Audi. The new Impreza, while a likely winner for Subaru's overall sales, has strayed too far from it's rally heritage for me to want one. I'm sure the rally car will look sweet, and the STi too will be better looking, but I was hoping for some middle ground with the WRX. Sure, it's always been a hood-scooped econo-car, but now it looks like one. :(

If only they'd bring back the SVX before I save up enough to afford the new S5.

Kevin M 2007-04-03 10:07 AM

Dude, if an S5 is your ideal next DD... what could Subaru possibly do to a WRX to make you want one more?

It's not bad when you compare it to the competition.

http://www.canadiandriver.com/galler..._pw_007-75.jpg

I'm just excited to see the new STI. I'm not sure how accurate these will end up being.

Nick Koan 2007-04-03 10:22 AM

Ug, the placement of the wing on that p-shop makes me hurt deep down inside.

But, I think the hatch is pretty awesome. I can't wait to see what the STi actually ends up looking like.

MPREZIV 2007-04-03 10:57 AM

Oh GOD! That's just plain awful... :( I'ma have to go hurt Bob to make myself feel better...

Um, 1/3 the price for 2/3 the car? Hell, the interior and performance are already there... but the WRX is too plain looking. That's why I'd love a new $40k SVX... it'd compete with all the 2 door MBZ/Audi offerings but cost less and not be quite as nice/fast.

AtomicLabMonkey 2007-04-04 09:59 AM

Wow, they really have made it look like a pure econobox. Why are OEMs so good at taking a great design and slowly watering it down to nothing over the years? I guess it's not a Detroit-only phenomenon.

I think a lot of it is that Subaru is finally trying to go up against Toyota. The car looks more like what a lot of people expect it to look like, and I think that will greatly help their sales numbers, although it will alienate the people that buy Subaru for its rally association.

Plus if you look at the cars that other rally cars are based on, they're much tamer than the rally version:

http://www.lifecar.de/berichte/bilder/citroen-c4-01.jpg

http://www.duemotori.com/racingnews/...ueue/10081.jpg

http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/1...ford-focus.jpg

http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring...s-rs-wrc-1.JPG

Additionally, the STi will now probably boost its sales as well, as all the fence-sitters that decide "well the WRX is enough" will all bump to the STi over looks alone. Now the WRX is more of an econo-sleeper. And even better the new WRX may look so tame, all the ricer fanbois will just go buy Lancers. Sliver-lining?

But yeah... no more cool looking, rally inspired, affordable sports sedan. :(

khail19 2007-04-04 05:52 PM

I really like hatchback cars in general, but the 08 Impreza just isn't doing it for me. Although I hated the 06 design in pictures but I really like the car in person. I'm hoping the same thing will happen with the 08 once I see a few on the road. I'd hate to have to spring for the STi just to get a decent looking car.

chrscott_01 2007-04-04 06:23 PM

 I'm gonna be sick! I WAS planning on an Sti for a christmas present to myself... Santa is gonna be bringing an Evo now!

cody 2007-04-04 06:35 PM

What's the new Evo like?

chrscott_01 2007-04-04 06:49 PM

OK, I spoke way too soon, the 08 evo is a million times worse than the 08 werks! I looked up "08 evo X" and all the pics I saw were pretty consistent as far as what it's "supposed" to look like and I gotta say, I am very disappointed with Subaru and Mitsubishi. They both have taken things to a whole new level of gay. Lets hope I can move up my X-mas present soon enough to swoop a new 07 Sti while they are still around!

tysonK 2007-04-04 08:15 PM

as long as they perform, I don't care what it looks like.

JC, "Yeah dude you used to own a bugeye."

hey man I liked my bugeye!

It's not really fair to compare the Evo to the 2.5i or the WRX. The Evo looks ok...

I still can't wait to see the STi trim. It wouldn't take much for me to like it better than the Evo. I like wagons and a hatch is just a sporty wagon. :P

The link in the first post now shows you photoshop smoothed images...nothing we haven't seen already. They're server is slowing to a crawl though.
