Converting Word doc to image file...

How can I convert a Word doc. to an image file like .gif or .jpg? I searched for freeware but only found trial stuff. I am designing a logo and ended up with features that don't convert to html, so I figure I can make an image file out of it.

Maybe a better question would be what's the best (free or cheap) way to create a logo?

sperry 2007-04-02 02:21 PM

Um, push the printscreen button on you keyboard, and paste into mspaint? (Or find someone that knows their way around Illustrator and get it done the proper way...) ;)

Kevin M 2007-04-02 02:22 PM

alt-prt scrn, paste into your pirated copy of photochop?

Kevin M 2007-04-02 02:22 PM

Damn, too slow.

knucklesplitter 2007-04-02 03:02 PM

Hit the Beta with a hammer.

Push "clock" and type the time on the key pad... push "clock" again to save.

It's pretty ragged looking. Is that normal for Word or Paint?

(Yes, I know I have to clean up the border lines, and yes, I know it sux - just a first pass)

knucklesplitter 2007-04-02 03:11 PM

I'm doing all my HTML programming in this kewl software that's perfect for this sorta thing - it's called "MS Word". Any tips, Scott?

Try making the Page Setup (File Menu) Landscape and make the font as big as possible and do a print preview before you do the printscreen.

knucklesplitter 2007-04-03 02:11 PM

100%-Juice has kindly offered to help me create a more professional logo-like thingy.

MPREZIV 2007-04-03 02:16 PM

Hell, I thought Scott's was pretty Bad-Ass... and Mike's, just for the subliminal message :D

I know, I wish I had something with my name, just to use that stylized K - I love it!

khail19 2007-04-03 03:10 PM

Hmm, my name starts with a K...

Scott, stop whatever you're doing and make cool looking thingys for us! :P

I didn't think we'd ever see him back here. He left in such a hissy fit last time.

knucklesplitter 2007-04-03 03:30 PM

I liked Scott's - maybe a little too stylized for the 'K", but I picked my font to copy SUBARU's. I bet it will soon have an oval and some stars in there somewhere. ;) Then I can hire a lawyer to defend it...

I wanted it to be "KS Engineering" originally, since I are engineer. But since my PE lapsed many moons ago I cannot legally have the word engineer or engineering in my company's name. I'm still trying to figure out what the KS stands for.

I've met him in person - nice guy. Comes off strong on the forum sometimes I guess - this seems typical to me... bitches.

I never had an issue with him "coming off strong"... most of us on here are much bigger e-assholes than you could ever pin on him. Plus he was very enthusiastic about the club. I just wonder why he never came out to any of the meets and get to know everyone in person.

This board has (for better or worse) become somewhat cliquish between those that participate in person vs. those that participate online only. Granted some people aren't local, but the majority of people are, and lots of them make the effort to come out and get to know everyone in person... once that's happened I think people realize those of us that seem harsh online aren't really quite that bad, and the regulars tend to chill out on the n00bs because of their effort. It's easy to be harsh online to someone you don't know in person... so if you're not personally known be the majority, you gotta have a little thicker skin than perhaps otherwise.

Hell, look at Cody... I don't think anyone on here had a harsher time as a n00b, but he soldiered on though it, and I think he's pretty well won everyone over. Now everyone that give him shit is just joking around w/ a friend, rather than hazing a n00b.

Anyway, I figured 100% would fit in just fine w/ the rest of the "regulars" if he came out to a few meets. But then that whole thing w/ the wing went down and I think he took it for harsher commentary than was actually intended, and we haven't seen him since.

I have taken off work and have been to 3 meets where I have talked to you personally. I guess only about 4 people on this board have had dealings with me outside of the board/meets to actually get to know me. Im pretty sure that Matt, dean, khail, and sergeo can vouch for me. As everyone has probably discovered I do joke about most everything, yet im not much for getting flamed online by those who are so quick to spout. hence the break.

My apologies... I must have confused you with someone else's online name when I met you. (Others can verify, I'm piss poor at remembering people... at any given meet I probably remember about half the peoples names.)

cody 2007-04-03 07:19 PM

Once I came to terms with the fact that you guys are just really good at flaming (and hey, when you're good at something, milk it for all it's worth) I learned to just laugh it off. Everyone is really cool once you meet them in person. Kevin's the only one who is a jerk in person too.

J/K Kevin. But BTW, the slightly taller and stiffer springs did make a big difference keeping the rear tires from rubbing. :)

khail19 2007-04-03 08:59 PM

I'm nice on the internet and a jerk in person. Or at least that's what my wife tells me!

knucklesplitter 2007-04-05 07:44 AM

The first one is pretty damn nice, but I think it's too blatant a trademark violation.

The second one is more what I was looking for. KST a little bigger in the oval and more prominent. When the words come out the side I didn't literally mean for it to look like it was bursting out - lol. Italics for the lettering and space the letters closer. Maybe move the stars around to be in the background of the oval. The big star perhaps shining behid the K in the background.

But I'm not picky.

100_Percent_Juice 2007-04-05 08:28 AM

^draw me the picture in your mind. it will be easier for me and faster for you.

You're really going to want to stay away from using Subaru badging as part of your logo. Not only is it infringement, it's shooting yourself in the foot to use Subaru references if for example you start selling EVO parts as well.

Also, you need to think in terms of simplicity for the logo. If you can't cut it out of single color vinyl, you're either limiting your advertisement possibilities, or you're spending 5 times as much money for printed vinyl. Photoshop style effects look sweet, and can always be applied to raster versions of the logo, but the starting point should be vector based, simple, and recognizable.

knucklesplitter 2007-04-05 10:54 AM

Excellent points, Scott...
