Just for future reference: there's no point in going around trying to harass a bot that's spamming the board... it's not like that guy was reading the replies, because that guy can't read.

Just hit the little report post button http://www.seccs.org/forums/images/s...ons/report.gif, and a moderator will get to it eventually. No reason to bump the thread and make a big deal out of it.

I always wondered what that button was for...

And for those of us with nothing better to do, it was kind of fun. :)

You can always click on the Show Forum Leaders link to see who's available.

Well, I found out what happens (not enough) when I chose the Ignore feature. I could still see the thread titles, just not the text. I completely missed the report post button though, so now I know.

Doesn't a user have to wait for an email confirmation and then click the emailed linky to be able to post? forgive my bot-ignorance ...

I missed this whole thing looking for items in our receiving dept, dang.

The bots are pretty sophisticated these days, and can handle registration stuff like that. But I'll bet there are some automated tools where someone will manually handle the sign-up, then the tool starts posting crap.

Well it's right next to the "Mark Forums Read" everyone tells me to click instead of reading all the forums, so I figured it was pretty obvious.

Canned sites are easy prey if you are writing bots to spam to them, unless you go with the type the random letters/number you see in this box to let people post deal. Such is the life of the intarweb.

Yeah, we've had to ban like 40 new users today or something. And a lot of them weren't posting.

Luckily we are a small enough board that we can just blanket ban everyone that signs up for the next few days (considering there are rarely any new signups, its not hard to spot the fake ones).

Spiders are search engines that are crawling the board to index us in their database. They're nice enough to let us know who they are instead of just being "guest".

As far as the new users... new user registration has been disabled for now. We'll turn it back on later. Until then, if anyone's got friends that want to join, just PM me and I can set their accounts up manually.

Oh, and I just like to say... our mods rock! Yes, this is a spammer banned while registering. :lol: Check out their "last activity". :devil:
