Cruise control/Check Engine
I was on my way to class a little while ago and my cruise control started blinking and my check engine light came on. I pulled over and I checked my gas cap and my oil and made sure everything was on tight and it was...so I took it to the subaru dealership but no one was there to look at it. The lady there said it would be about $108 to get it checked...Is there anything else I can do to see if it goes away?? :~:

Several members can run OBDII checks for you. Don't spend any money on repairs or anything like that until checking with the board. Were you getting into peak bost in 5th or 6th around the time it happened?
|
AutoZone will also scan it for free. Once you get the code[s], post 'em up.
|
emily your not supposed to break your car right before you sell it...
|
Yeah I think it happened when I was going into 5th.
Cory said he would look at it when he got back...but I really don't want to spend 108 bucks on that. I don't have the money for it :( And I didn't mean to break it...I was just driving to school...haha! |

Places like auto zone can check codes with a generic scanner which will only tell codes that are industry standard codes, make and model specific codes will not show up.

Jeremy makes an interesting point though...I've never had a CEL that wasn't anticipated but I'd use my AP to read it if I did. |
Probably a missfire.
If you can't get it read for free, you can always clear it by unhooking the battery and hitting the brake pedal. |
I will bring my OBDII scanner to the meet tomorrow

Okay so should I stop at AutoZone to get the code or just wait till the meet.
I'll probably be at Tamarak at about 6... |
The meet isn't even til 7!
|
I know but I'm going there straight after work and I don't want to drive my car around too much today...
So i'll just wait there haha! |

You said " Yay! I my car is fixed"
|
okay.
I mean my car is fixed! |
What was the fix?

Well you might want to add a "probably" or "hopefully" to your car being fixed. :)
Sometimes these things come back. Alex's STi had a CEL that would come back every 100-200 miles and it ended up being an injector or a coilpack or something. Let's hope that it was just a stray misfire or something though. Your plugs less than 30K miles old? |

Yeah...I think my plugs were changed when I got my 30k mile maintence. |
Nevermind! I think I have the 90k mile spark plugs...and I have a little over 42k miles on my car
|
I just had the ol' CEL/blinky cruise the other day. I dismissed it as overboost or some such non-sense. AP said 'No Codes Found!" so I issued the 'Reset ECU' command.
A few days later the CEL came back. This time I checked with my real OBDII scanner. P200X Intake Runner valve stuck open (Bank 1). Turns out the APS TGV delete sensor bypass thingamajig lost a screw or two and separated. |
Spark plugs are recomended for replacement at 60,000 mile intervals... I'd be willing to bet that you had a tumble generated valve code. That code is more common than any other code.
