Add lightness instead of power.

100_Percent_Juice 2007-11-03 07:35 AM

Can you ADD lightness?

Helium.

cody 2007-11-03 12:07 PM

Have you data logged at this elevation? If I had a setup like your's, I'd get a custom tune for up here.

dayofpain 2007-11-03 12:41 PM

i think i have added about as much lightness as i can. i mean i gots no subframes!

i have adjusted boost for this elevation. ill do the rest when i get street tuner.

i really need just a few more small power adders to get to 400 to the ground on a mustang dyno.

for the record that would be 23 more hp.

any ideas gentlemen?

i spose i could list my power mods and maybe you guys will see something i left out.

cobb protune
aps 70mm CAI
aps dr725 FMIC
aps bpv
aps turbo inlet pipe
gt52 turbo
smc meth injection 100%
tanabe full turbo-back catless 80mm
gtspec V2 header
worx tuning crank pulley

i can only think of a few things but i dunno if theyd really be power adders.

cobb inconel uppipe. or swap to aps full header.
tgv deletes
phoenlic gaskets er w/e they are called.
ported TB

dunno if any of that would really net some power gains but its all i can figure out .

sperry 2007-11-03 01:26 PM

TGVs would help a bit with flow... but really, I think you're looking at forged pistons and/or head work to really take the next step. You need more air & fuel in there... which means more flow and/or more boost.

You could just crank the boost up and try to jam more fuel in there to keep things from detonating... but I'd be worried about the pistons. You're right at what I'd call the safe limit for a stock bottom end. Sure some people make 400+ whp on a stock shortblock, but that's pushing it IMO.

knucklesplitter 2007-11-03 01:36 PM

TGV Deletes would be worth 10+hp at your power level. You should have done them when you had the manifold off for the APS turbo inlet! If you decide to do those I'll give you a free set of 8mm phenolic spacers to throw on there too (I have made and sold 100+ sets of these in 3mm & 8mm thick). I also have STI TGV housings that I could sell you to speed the swap up.

Do not go for the APS header. The uppipe is too small (1.75"OD) for your power level.

On a hijack/side note... you still working on a bugeye hood scoop delete? My hood is just sitting on the roof of my car if you want to test fit against it... hell, you could even borrow the whole damn thing for a while... I won't need it until I have the motor built.

wow that would be awesome. save me a chunk of change for the gaskets. if grimmspeed has cores there ill just pay the core charge and send mine back for refund. but if they dont ill for sure buy yours.

theres a pretty big step down from my uppipe to my turbo at the moment. im wondering how i should proceed with the porting and whatnot.

The uppipe bigger than the turbo hole? It would worth something to get the turbo ported for a smoother transition. How much I dunno.

dayofpain 2007-11-03 02:23 PM

turbo hole bigger than upipe

That is not as much of a problem as the other way around, but still - there must be something to be gained - spool and a couple horses. The last 1/2" of the uppipe can be ported for transition, but that's still a quick change in diameter. Maybe a bigger uppipe would be worth it - the turbo housing designer seems to think you need a bigger one (based on the hole size he spec'd).

NevadaSTi 2007-11-03 05:30 PM

fully ported heads?

BTW, I have an extra set of 05 STi heads.

I think he is refering to doing something that would result in some broken knee caps. Just a guess.

dayofpain 2007-11-09 09:12 PM

rofl fucking out loud. and everything.

so i keep throwing a 0457 code since before my first tune.

i took my manifold apart today just for shits and grins.

heres the gasser. 1 vaccuum line AND 1 fuel pressure line DISCONECTED.

im scared to drive it now. it pulls like a raped fucking ape. i think i might be at 400 whp on a mustang.

oh and for the record i actually spool about 300 rpm LOWER.

Damn. Turn down the boost and go get retuned before you hurt something and stay out of open loop! Either one of those could have a major impact on a tune, both is just plane scary.

Who had those bits off last?

dayofpain 2007-11-09 09:38 PM

when they installed my turbo was the last time. so retarded. i just went for a drive and my first and second gears now feel like my 4 was feeling.

Be careful! At least do a log and see what is going on. The narrow band won't tell you much, but the A/F trims, advance multiplier and such will after a reset.

dayofpain 2007-11-09 09:52 PM

i gots no wideband still... sooks

I know, but go log anyway before you blowed up. Let me know if you need help. Your AP cable and Enginuity will do it. You have a laptop?

dayofpain 2007-11-09 11:57 PM

no laptop either. sunk all my cash into my desktop ... :(

knucklesplitter 2007-11-10 09:38 AM

I agree with Dean that you should be careful until you can have your AFRs checked. Chances are you're running a tad richer now though, but that should have killed your power a little, so I dunno.

Wait... which fuel pressure reg. line? You better be careful...
