Cheap Car Recommendations
I would like to get a small car that is dirt cheap to own, maintain, insure, put gas in and also find parts for. I know that a lot of you car whores might have some input. This car will be a supplement to our existing cars and will not need to be good in winter weather. A/C and radio are optional. I am thinking model year in the 80s or early 90s. The number of doors are not important but I am 6'3 and we all know my career rushing yards so no miata!
Again, I am not looking for someone to find me a car, just suggestions on a make and model. :liljon: |
93-96 Impreza. Speaking from experience. And if you happen to get one with no AC and no AWD, I can help you rememdy that. :)

Toyota, Honda = reliable with age for the most part.
That is all. |
What Dean said. Corollas are pretty cheap & reliable, and we get almost 40mpg highway in ours (1999).
|
Yeah I guess it depends on just how cheap you want to go. I am partial to the late 90's corollas myself. Also, the Chevy/Geo Prism is a rebadged Corolla if you happen to come across one.
|
+1 for a corolla... or look at a mid-late 90's civic if you want something a touch nicer. Just stay away from stuff that's been riced out at some point in it's life span.

I would want a toyota pickup.
Does it have to be a car? |
Don't forget VWs

It looks like Angela and Ashely are selling a BMW!
I think Ashley killed her boyfriend Brad, and now she is selling his car and is a lesbian with Angela. http://reno.craigslist.org/car/472149982.html |

Dude I've been trolling the c list for like ever. man.
I mostly find it disgusting though. |
Because I like the tangible; how cheap is 'cheap'?

My 87 Scirocco with the 16v was freaking sweet, at least I think it was. I only had it for a week. |

1st gen RX7 naturally aspirated rotary 1980-85, or try the 2nd gens. Fun to drive, cheap to mod and a redline of 7200!

For everyone posting listings & "my friend's cousin's brother Vinnie's half-nephew is selling X", let's revisit:

Yes, they're easy to work on. The point of "reliable" is to not have to work on them. Also, they're horrible in the snow. You would think with the weight of the engine over the drive wheels the grip would be great, but it's still hanging out back and like every person that's seen a Porsche on a track knows, they're spin happy. Bobby, you remember what happened to me Mt. Rose Highway that snowy day in my '71... Lastly, Bugs are getting to that age that all years are becoming desirable, not just the 50s and 60s. They're getting tough to come by at a price that directly reflects what they're actually worth. |

I heard someplace that the 2009 Nissan GT-R is a really good value compared to some others...
|
I would buy one but I don't want to scrape coming out of walmart.

I heard someplace a piece of metal that plugs your hood scoop hole for $200 is a good value. ;)
