Disc Golf coming up

I didn't want to derail the other thread too much. If you have never went to any of the courses below I will be going this spring/summer. I can post times in here when I go. I also have plenty of discs so you can borrow some if you don't want to buy any that day.

I look forward to it every year, but since my brother moved away it's not quite as fun!

Disc Golfing.

I believe they are trying to build a Disc Golf course downtown.

I would love to throw off the top of The Eldorado.

Dean 2008-04-27 07:56 PM

At Rancho San Rafeal... http://www.renodiscgolf.com/

tysonK 2008-04-27 07:59 PM

Cool they have been talking about that 4ever.

I'm gonna have to go walk that map.

Forgotten 2008-04-27 10:13 PM

I live to frolf

MikeK 2008-04-28 07:51 AM

I'll be driving the disc golf cart

ScottyS 2008-04-28 08:22 AM

Back in the day, I made a nice map of the unofficial "official" UNR campus course. Back when it was established, nobody cared. If you were to play it now, you would need to run the whole way just to stay ahead of the security forces.

JonnydaJibba 2008-04-28 09:03 AM

Disc golf is hella fun. I've only played down in San Diego. I'm pretty sure everybody playing there was high. Yes, everybody.

Tyson, post up when you want to play, I'll prob tag along.

Yeah me and my brother had an unofficail course we would play Sat and Sun mornings. The campus really is a great place for it.

Careful when throwing off Ansari towards the lecture hall though, you might have to go on a roof.;)

k-dogg39 2008-04-28 09:58 AM

I just played last weekend in Chico. Let me know when you go, I would probably come out!

Nick Koan 2008-04-28 10:01 AM

I'm always down too.

Though, I'll need someone to provide the disks.

Dean 2008-04-28 10:06 AM

Is there a park down by Tamarack? Maybe a pre-meet meet?

Anybody just want to throw one around? Golf not required.

JonnydaJibba 2008-04-28 10:19 AM

If I can get away from GTA4, I'll bring one on Thursday. However that's quite an if.

Dean 2008-05-01 09:05 AM

So, anybody want to get together before the meet and throw a frisbee around, or should I just bring my asphalt skipped 165 to the meet and wing it at somebody?

Just make sure you bring enough hackey-sacs, birkenstocks, hemp hoodies, body oder, long hair, and Third Eye Blind CDs for everyone too.

Get the heck out of this hippie thread you employed fossil fuel guzzling, pickup truck driving, video game playing, computer programmer, techno music loving red neck nerd. :P

Nick Koan 2008-05-01 09:20 AM

Ew, Third Eye Blind?

At least bring out the Spin Doctors.

Dean 2008-05-01 09:21 AM

Jewel and Soft Cell... :P Oh, and Alphaville.

Don't be insulting Soft Cell by lumping them with all that hippie shit.

synthesizers == instant non-hippie status.

Dude, hippies invented the synthesizer by accident while trying to make an electric bong for Peter Frampton.

This is patently false. Just try to make it through a Doors keyboard solo w/o being high.

Nick Koan 2008-05-01 01:38 PM

Okay fine.

Songs about "turning disco Dollies to a life of vice" absolves Soft Cell of hippiedom.

tysonK 2008-05-01 01:40 PM

GTFO

ScottyS 2008-05-02 01:19 PM

If I make it to a disc meet, I'll be pack a Discraft 175.....

MPREZIV 2008-05-03 10:32 AM

I took my 185 to work to chuck around with Bob on lunch. He whines like a girl.

[Whining Little Girl Voice] "It's too heavy! It hurts my hand! I don' wanna play!!" [/WLGV]

Dean 2008-05-03 10:45 AM

Damn, I thought my Master 165 was heavy. You guys are packing serious heat.

I have an Omni HDR model Frisbee that that is only a 160, but it is 2 piece construction. The top is really thin and smooth and the rim is much heavier plastic. It hurts like a bitch if you catch it without moving your hand with it or it tags a knuckle.

Tyson might marginally approve of it for golf though because it has a very smooth profile and throws well for distance. (Had to include some golf content or Tyson would yell at us again for Fing up his thread.)

Approved.

Most of my driver disc are like 167+

Hey i Resent that comment, oh wait, no I resemble that comment. Except I my lost my 3rd eye blind CD . :(

If anyone wants to come play at zephyr or Bijou let me know , I have extra discs as well . I'm usually a few over par to a lot over par :( ! Bijou is great btw, i love how there are big no dogs and no bottle signs and 1/4 of the locals show up with dogs and 80% shows up with bottled beer.

BTW if you play zephyr probably plan to lose a disc its a rough course.

How the heck do you lose a 10-12"+ diameter brightly colored piece of plastic? Are you playing in a corn field? Even then, it is a 10-12"+ diameter brightly colored piece of plastic. Maybe it is surrounded by inaccessible roofs and kite, I mean Frisbee eating trees?

Nick Koan 2008-05-05 12:57 PM

Disc Golf disks fly farther than frisbees, and they can fly out of your sight. And on a rough course and with a bad landing, it can make finding the disc quite a chore (or impossible if they fall into an inaccessible area like a canyon or lake or something).

"Ever take your clothes off and run backwards through a cornfield?"

Yeah you lose discs in the manzanita(sp) in at Zephyr, I lost my favorite eagle there a long time ago.

A1337STI 2008-05-05 03:58 PM

and yes Trees will also eat your discs. If you play at bijou after a very Windy night, you'll find a few discs that got blown out of a tree.

yeah the under brush hides them well, also its possible in spots to have it fall in between rocks/ boulders and if you didn't see it go in there. Good Luck!

Dean 2008-05-05 04:07 PM

What, you don't carry wrist rockets or BB guns to get them out of trees? :)

They work well on pesky dogs too. ;)

I like to get 14 of my closest hippy friends and protest the tree until it releases my frisbee. Then I hug it out with my coniferous brother afterwards.

I call shenanigans on having 14 friends.

Dean 2008-10-22 03:13 PM

Looks like great weather coming this weekend, and now I have official golf discs... Anybody want to play? Tyson?

I need to learn how to throw these tiny things...

tysonK 2008-10-22 03:23 PM

Well I am going to Tahoe Vista Course Thursday mid morning.
I guess you turn on National...I've never been there.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

I'll be at the Rancho Course, probably Friday Morn and Afternoon, and most days after 4:15pm

When, where?

tysonK 2008-10-22 03:44 PM

I guess my ninja edit was not fast enough...

pm me.

cody 2008-10-22 03:45 PM

I love disc golf...I've only played once and it was in Desolation Wilderness, but I love it! :D

Unfortunately, the GF's parents are coming into town this weekend, so I'll be busy.

tysonK 2008-10-22 03:47 PM

Well let me know, like I posted I'll probably be at the rancho course until it gets snowed over or what not.
