Good tune results!
So today Corey and myself did many dyno runs after each tuning change and at the end of the day i was up to about 210 hp and 239 torque. We tuned a little more and think it probably would be 215 hp and 245 tq but my clutch started slipping (I knew the bastard was ready to go! It's been not engaging properly lately too). My original dyno before the tunes was fluctuating from 170-180 horse and 185-200 torque so even on the low end it's a 35 hp gain and 45 torque gain. Thanks Corey!
Oh and it's a completely stock WRX otherwise so those are fantastic gains for not having a DP or supporting mods. |
Sweet! What/Who's dyno were you on?
Road Dyno program from Laptop.
Good numbers man! How's it feel?

why does it appear every car i read about getting tuned by cory has a slipping clutch?...
haha ^ I was gonna say the same thing.
I'll admit. my clutch was slipping cuz of all the bad launches from the week before at RFR. I screwed my OEM clutch. lol
Yea my clutch hasn't felt 100 percent lately anyways and adding 35 horse and 40 torque obviously will burn it up quicker with continuous hard launches. I'm with Austin here that it's probably a case of where the clutch was just going out. I'm at 67k miles and every WRX owner i've seen posting that the OEM clutch was going had between 55k-70k miles or so, so I assume that's about the clutch life on these cars. I've only had the car for 5k of those miles so not sure how it was treated before.
my boss has had two wrx's last upwards of 90k on stock clutches on his wrx's. it just seems after a cory tune, when excessive boost is tossed around the car is in need of having a tranny dropped... food for thought...
Well just because your boss had 2 that lasted till 90k doesn't change the fact that EVERY WRX owner i've personally met lost theirs between 55k-70k miles. I didn't say a tune or running too much PSI couldn't affect it, I merely implied mine showed signs previously.
I've scoured the living hell out of Nasioc in the Clutch/Tranny section and it's a pretty common trend that the clutches especially on the higher torque 06-07's go pretty quick. Yes more power= more wear and tear on a car obviously. I'm only running about 14 PSI and my SRT4 ran a sustained 19-20 on the same TD04 and the EJ is just as strong so I don't think the PSI is dangerously high. I'm also not running super lean or anything. I'm going to send you a PM. |
replied your pm. im just saying what ive read from people. but hey if your happy with cory tuning your car then go for it.. its not my car.

 *sips Grape soda*. Anyone else beat Mass Effect 2 yet?
Well that was really random and off topic.. haha I think that should go in the games thread mike.

I still haven't tried MW. I prefer shooters with sex scenes like Mass Effect thank you very much! I mean my girlfriend knows she's a second option to pixel love.

Austin do you have Left 4 Dead 1 or 2? Do any of you? If so that's a badass game to play with other people. I can set up a tournament or something. I have 4 wireless controllers at my place too and I barbeque pretty often if anyone ever wants to have a "Subby party" at my house lol.
Yea I have left for dead one. I can rent 2.

About the clutch....
I have never seen a clutch do what his did... I didn't feel it slip at all and then on the last pull it just reved up to about 6k. It never slipped before this pull...I thought he still had his fot on the clutch a little or something. max boost was 14.05 psi from a pull starting at 2k. Cory |

haha ive gone through 4 clutchs in 2 years... going to be my 5th one..
Maybe you should think about getting a new left leg.
I just read a post by a guy with a bugeye he bought new and it now has 165K miles on it with the stock clutch and now he's going stage 2 finally.
MattR has like 30,000 *race* miles on his car and the stock clutch is still serviceable. He keeps planning on replacing it, but it's still good enough to put off for another season year after year.
Crazy, especially given the numerous "drag start" autocross courses we've been seeing more of in the past couple years.

Nah, RFR brought out the drag starts.
Ah. I missed some of those.

Cody's right though, the RFR uphill drag start last year smoked my clutch bigtime...:( |
Oh yeah, the one I skipped to protest the decision not to alter the course that killed a Lotus.
