SECCS 10th Anniversary
Unbelievably, this Sunday, November 25, 2012 is our 10th Anniversary.
Way back in 2002, during the whole i-club/NASIOC split fiasco, we setup a nifty little phpBB forum over at doink.net. That forum helped us organize the original weekly meets of the club. Here in fact is the very first thread on the forums: http://www.seccs.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1 Back then, I never would have imagined that there would still be a core group of folks that still post here every day a decade later. Surely, SECCS is no longer the club that it used to be, but it still provides a great place for local folks to get together and talk even if most of us have shifted our priorities away from owning a Subaru and towards things like having jobs and kids. I'd like to thank all the members; those of you who have been here for the last 10 years, and those of you that have joined us and stuck around over that time. SECCS is literally nothing without its members. How about a little trip down memory lane? This is pretty much everyone, circa Nov 2002, shortly before the site went live: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...eet/Lineup.jpg http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...Lineup%203.jpg Xmas 2002 we went out in the snow near Galena. http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...roads%20it.jpg Even saw an FX45 test mule doing winter testing before Nissan released it: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...%20SUV%206.jpg New years 2003, we were at the newly opened Tamarack. Remember when we used to pop our hoods and look at each others cars? http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...%20Lot%203.jpg Karting at the Hilton in March '03: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...The%20Crew.jpg The first of many days of SECCS domination of the 2003 Reno SCCA autocross season: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Autocro...lineup%205.jpg There was an F40 there that day... http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Autocro...%20F40%201.jpg We were meeting at Starbucks back then... here's DayOfPain's awesome WRX. RIP Phil. :( http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...eet/DoPWRX.jpg Then we were meeting at Cantina Los Tres Hombres for a few weeks... definitely the era of the bugeye: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...ineup%2013.jpg http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...Lineup%209.jpg Summer of 2003, we moved over the the 4th Turn, across the street from Subaru. One of the dealers brought the 1st STi Lithia had for sale by the meet for us to drool over: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...20Meet/STi.jpg Look, we're like a real club or something. I wonder where that banner is these days? http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...20Shot%202.jpg Headed down to Sacramento to hang with the SRIC sister club: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...ubarus%203.jpg We represented Reno SCCA at the NORPAC convention, even won the use of a WRX donated by Subaru for our efforts of bringing in new SCCA members... that we couldn't accept due to insurance cost. http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car%20P...CCS%20Crew.jpg http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car%20P...6%20Lineup.jpg In 2004, some of us tried out hands at Solo 1 to varying degrees of success: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Autocro...is%20dirty.jpg Lap of the Lake charity drive: http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Reno%20...e/DSCF0226.JPG In August, we hosted our own track day at RFR... Racecars, f-in racecars!! http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Race%20...y/DSCF0197.JPG http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Race%20...y/DSCF0211.JPG http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Race%20...y/DSCF0111.JPG In 2005, things took a turn for the absurd as MattR represented at Import Motion in Sacramento. http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Race%20...n/DSCF0064.JPG That must have been about the time the shark was jumped, because at that point, I stopped taking pictures at the meets/races. Also, that's around when my WRX was broken for the first long stint... which put a bit of a damper on my enthusiasm. Who else has any pictures or stories from the "good old days"? |

Scott, I think you sent these pics to me many years ago. I can't believe it's been 10 years, and that I had my RS for almost 9 of them.

Only 800 more posts and you owe me $100!!! Gotta work on that! :)
I like the original Jedi ranks. Very nerdy! :) I have to blame Debbie for getting me involved in this group, though I think I am the one who nudged her to get the WRB bugeye wagon in the first place. Are there no pictures of the Circuit City/Starbucks meets? I think one of those was the first I attended. |
Great Post Scott, I'll see if I have any old pictures, but you pulled some goodies! Also, I have the banner still, keeping it safe. Haven't had a big event to set it up for in a while. Let me know if you want it back, It's in its box.
While Import Motion was absurd, it was a lot of fun and I was trying to help out Nate and Scott as my STi (was one of, if not the..) first STi Nate had tuned. We really let the rice fly that weekend, haha. I remember leaving and walking over to the Rat-rod show. Great stuff, thanks |

Wow, lots of old stuff. A lot of this happened right as I was hanging out with the Sacramento people 8 years ago, before even joining the board and moving to Reno.
Here is an old random photo from an auto-x. I believe this was Pete's bugeye, but I can't remember. I'm pretty sure this was Bob's handiwork though. |
I still have my RFR T shirt from that day. Man that was a fun day. I remember Mike and I were so nervous in the morning. Good times!

Nick, the first time I met you, was at Nate's old shop, down in Sac. What is. Nate up to these days?

My most vivid track day memory is still the look on that woman's face when you were were yelling about how you were going to destroy that port-a-potty after eating a burrito as big as your arm  http://www.seccs.org/forums/attachme...9&d=1118810971 |
Was that the same event or the Audi event? Either way I do remember following through.

SECCS used to party pretty hard if I recall...And I found another picture of a dirty high-speed off at Lovelock...
|
I think all Subarus driven at the track are required to hit a cone with the front right fender while moving in excess of 70MPH! I've done it at least twice now.

Here are some pics from Winnemucca, Mike and Tyson talking shit about the STI already  |

Well, I've only got 8.5 years in as a peripheral member, but it's still cool to see all the old photos.
Here are some from 2004. How many still have their cars from back then I wonder? |

OK, can't help myself. Some old favorites, including when I was volunteering in an unsolicited capacity for Sybir Graphics Solutions, Inc.
