Autocross Chat 2009

What's everyone running next year? Dean and Scott, you guys going to be out there despite mechanical issues? What's Kevin going to fit 255's on?

I'm going to leave my grill aftermarket this year after being informed of this clause:

13.2 BODYWORK
Quote:

A. Accessories, gauges, indicators, lights and other appearance,
comfort and convenience modifications which have no effect on
performance and/or handling and do not materially reduce the
weight of the car are permitted. This does not allow driver’s seat
substitutions, or the removal of “tow hooks”, a.k.a. “tie-down
loops”. Delayed shutdown devices such as the “Turbo Timer”,
which perform no function while the car is in motion, are permitted.
This does permit the installation of an additional mirror
(e.g. a “Wink”), but does not allow the removal of the original
mirror. “Grounding kits” specifically designed to support sound
systems are permitted but may serve no other purpose.

I'm running SM, hopefully I can save enough money to be able to afford some 245's and some Stoptechs.

WRX06TR 2009-02-15 04:52 PM

I don't know about class, I'm not really a threat to anybody around here anyway. As far as what I am running...

2006 WRX
Cobb Stage 2
F/R Sways
STi take off Springs
17x8 Wheels with Kumho Ecsta MX 225s...

Only thing that might change is the tires. They are getting worn out so I can hopefully upgrade to 245 or 255 615's. Oh, and I will probably but the EBC Yellow pads I have sitting in the garage on when the season starts.

You really don't need big brakes for autocross. In fact, they're no advantage whatsoever without a crazy fast and/or heavy car, and yours is neither (yet).

You're legal for STU or ESP. The latter will probably be a larger class, which is good or bad depending on your position on the matter. ;)

Dewey 2009-02-15 05:58 PM

My mod list.. so far..

2002 WRX
2006 STi body
Volvo Crystal Gray paint
18" prodrive p1's (hopefully 17"s before next season.
Tein Flex coilovers w/ EDFC
Injen cyborg CAI
STi Intercooler
Underdrive pully
GFB WRX hybrid bov
Cobb stage 2
TBE
hood dampers

Interior
'04 STi interior w/ doorcards
HKS turbo timer type 1
Kenwood navi package
2 kicker 10" subs
alpine 400 watt rms 4chan amp
kicker 350 watt rms 2 chan amp

I probably forgot a few things..

Im legal to run in SM... nothing lower than that :(
Hopefully Dean and Matt run in BSP :D

PS - I am not exactly proud of some of the mods I have done / came on the car when I bought it (intake and bov) this is just a list. not a request for opinions.

WRX06TR 2009-02-15 05:59 PM

Ok, I will have to keep that in mind. I forgot to add that my trunk is debadged, I thought that changed my class...

They did away with that stupid rule. You should really play in ESP so you don't have to run stock boost. :)

Also I believe your limited to 245 width tires and stock flywheel in ST.

Mike K, hopefully you had a change of heart and will be rejoining the party?

I'm on a strict savings plan this year, with my company announcing more layoffs are on the way.

Maybe if I survive the next round I will start showing up again, otherwise I will be sitting at home in the dark with the heat off not spending money!

cody 2009-02-15 07:03 PM

In retrospect, I guess the "/10" in the thread title was unnecessary.

Well wouldn't Stage 2 put me in ESP because it bumps up the boost?

cody 2009-02-15 07:19 PM

Yah, but Cobb has an ST legal map for free download.

WRX06TR 2009-02-15 07:43 PM

Eh, forget that, ESP it is...woot I'm going to get slaughtered!

Dean 2009-02-15 07:49 PM

Right now it looks like SBE is the order of the day if anything.

I am not permitting myself to spend any money on the STI until I get a job.

Maybe Matt and I will see who can bench race faster... :(

MPREZIV 2009-02-16 07:41 AM

Same ol' Same ol'... Got rear brakes to more properly match the fronts, and I'll have some nice aftermarket front swaybar endlinks, to replace my shitty, worn out factory ones. Nothing special this year.

You're definitely not American. :P

Matt's not going to be running either? And get a job already you lazy bum. :P

Dean 2009-02-16 08:50 AM

Matt, Mike, you all look the same to me. :)

No, I'll be running...Definately on Street Tires. I'm going to see how well RE-01R's do on a 3rd Season  . Carrie is planning to run this season too...In the Silver STI. I'm pretty sure we'll run in SM, I have no chance in BSP on street tires.

Dean, what is SBE? Have you found a co-drive yet?

cody 2009-02-16 08:59 AM

Oh, I finally am getting some stock donor struts so if anyone sees any good deals on Koni inserts (for MY 04-07 fitment) let me know. The KYB AGX's are still doing fine for now though.

I've most often heard it in the context of a "brand" of cigarettes somebody smokes.

SBE = Some Body Else's = Co-Drive.

Not even sure I can justify that. For any co-drive, I would expect to contribute to tires, gas, etc. and I am not sure I can justify even that without a job.

Joeyy 2009-02-16 03:46 PM

I'll show my face at an event or two.

szucchet 2009-02-17 09:18 AM

I'll be there for sure but am leaning more towards SM i dont want to get killed by that corvette in BSP.

I think this will be your first year (I hate screen names), so Novice might be your best option. Run morning, afternoon, or twice each day...
