The 2014 Autocross thread!

Well it is March now, and a little over a month away from the start of the season!

Getting close to crunch time! Who is ready?

Also remember Annual Tech is Saturday the 29th at Summit Racing. Bring your first page of the 2014 rule book with you.

cody 2014-03-06 02:07 PM

I'm ready!

MattR 2014-03-07 07:27 AM

I was thinking of running in Stockton on 3/29 if anyone is interested?

k-dogg39 2014-03-07 10:34 AM

I would be, but that is the annual tech day so I can't make it.

k-dogg39 2014-03-12 11:04 AM

Just in case anyone isn't on the Renoscca site.

2014 Annual Tech info:

The date will be March 29th, the location will remain the same as the last few years at Summit Racing which is located at 960 East Glendale Avenue, Sparks, NV 89431. Annual tech will be going from 9:00 AM to about 1:00 PM. There will be a BBQ going usually with Burgers and Hotdogs around 12:00 PM. Come out and get your car inspected, socialize, get some food and have a good time!

Make sure that your car is in race ready condition (empty of all debris), with your numbers, and don't forget your helmet. The only exception in being race ready is wheels and tires if you normally run race tires (if you race on non- street legal tires, you may get tech with your street tires on).

Make sure you bring either a full rule book, or the first page printed out from the downloaded copy so that we can sign you off during the annual tech process. You will not receive an annual tech without one of these.

Also remember if you get an annual tech you are responsible in making sure you are bringing a safe car to each event. It does mean you should check your vehicle prior to events to make sure everything is safe, and ready to go.

Here are the conditions as defined in the Reno SCCA supplemental rules:

2.1. Safety Inspections (Solo Rule 3.3.3) The following is added to Solo Rule 3.3.3:
2.1.1. Annual Safety Inspection Annual Safety Inspection will be offered for vehicles of competitors that have competed in at least one full season of Solo events. The Chief of Tech, Safety Steward or Solo Director may exclude or include any vehicle from the Annual Safety Inspection program. Upon successful completion of the annual safety inspection a Reno Region Solo Annual Tech sticker shall be affixed to any part of the upper left side of the vehicle, including, but not limited to, a roll bar or the corner of the windshield. An annual sticker shall also be affixed to the left side of the driver’s helmet. The competitor’s current Solo Rules book, or electronic copy of the current Solo Rule book on laptop or CD, or printed copy of the cover of the current Solo Rules book downloaded from the SCCA website will be stamped and initialed to indicate successful completion of Annual Tech Inspection.

I'm not qualified but I'll be coming through to check things out with maybe a couple other cars that are interested on starting auto-x this season.

k-dogg39 2014-03-28 09:09 AM

Sweet!

Bump for tomorrow annual tech.

MPREZIV 2014-04-08 11:06 AM

Bump again!

School / Test and Tune this Saturday! I need volunteer instructors, and remember: if you volunteer to instruct, your test and tune time is free of charge! You don't have to be the BEST driver to instruct; remember that brand new participants need help with how the events run, and how to simply negotiate the course.

Sunday is the first scored event, and hopefully somebody can finally beat MattR...!

Miata comes before Mini alphabetically, so maybe I have a chance from that perspective? :)

cody 2014-04-15 01:37 PM

How was it? I got TToD for street tires here.

k-dogg39 2014-04-15 04:14 PM

It was crazy. The most people I have seen in our region come out. They just kept showing up for the morning group. Three runs only for the first event. Ahren threw down. I need to re-learn how to drive my car with the wide rubber. But it was a fun weekend!

MattR 2014-04-15 06:59 PM

Yeah, Ahren is looking very strong in TESP again, should be a great fight all year. Patty is fast in DS, Kevin will learn his car pretty quickly and be strong from SM, so it should be an intersting year.

Man, where was this Ahren guy when I lived there. I never had any direct competition in TESP/ESP. Sounds like fun. I definitely miss running with you guys.

Dean 2014-04-16 01:05 PM

It was a blast. I have not found the limits of the Miata. as Debbie says at the end of my first run, "the grip is amazing" 11 in PAX with only 3 runs, 2nd being best, I'm comin' at you... :)

cody 2014-04-18 04:45 PM

Man, 255 width Z2s are no joke. I was running on 245 width Starspecs the first two events, the new Z2s at the one we just had. Made a big difference.

http://www.empiresportscar.org/results/

To be fair though, the guy who usually kicks my ass in a meth injected SC'd Miata wasn't there.

Here's how the classes work by the way:

GTA-S = 8 cylinder N/A or 6 cylinder F/I, Street Tires
GTB-R = 6 cylinder N/A or 4 cylinder F/I, Race Tires
Etc.
Mods are unlimited.

Woot, I'm dragging a co-worker with a new 2015 WRX to the event. :)

got an other one with a 2011 WRX, but I don't he will end up driving.. . hopefully after a few rides he will want to join the fun.

cody 2014-05-22 02:50 PM

God, what I'd give to autocross a '15 WRX and/or STI. Let me know how it seems, even if from the passenger seat.

MattR 2014-05-24 05:59 PM

If you like a fast, wide-open autox course, you should come to stead Sunday

k-dogg39 2014-07-08 02:01 PM

We had a 3 lapper finale on Saturday. I got fastest street tire time again.

A1337STI 2014-10-28 02:24 PM

good job Cody. and the 2015 was amazing to autoX .. stock alignment and stock tires had i ran for points i think my fast time with a mystery cone would have been good enough for about 5th OA in pax . and i don't think RE92As are a 'winner' of a tire... hehehe

there's a rallyX in Sacramento nov 15-16 if you want to meet up and hang out and watch us have fun drifting around. :)
