SECCS Fender Rolling Party - June 14th - $20/car

I have Sybir's fender roller and heat gun as he was kind enough to lend them to me. I'd like to have a fender rolling party and I believe that the only day that will work for me is Sunday, June 14th. I'll be doing my timing belt on Saturday, the 13th so hopefully I'll be done by Sunday morning. :)

I, myself, do not have any experience rolling fenders but it seems fairly straightforward. Hopefully someone with experience will be there though. Unless someone with a better location would like it at their house/shop, etc, we'll have it at my house in Stead. I have a two car garage, a jack and jackstands and basic tools.

Sybir would like a $20 donation to go to SECCS (hosting fees, etc) for each car. Let's just make it $20 flat even if you only need the rears rolled. It's for a good cause. Sperry, please let me know what method[s] of payment you are okay with and I can keep track of payments. If you can't afford the $20, think it's too expensive, think I'm a big jerk, etc, post up and we'll see what we can do.

I'll keep an updated list of interested people in this post. We'll decide on a start time later based on the size of the list and the existence of any desire to get an early start. In the event of battles for timeslots, your post number in this thead will dictate who prevails.

If we end up with tons of interest and one day isn't going to cut it, perhaps somebody that Sybir trusts could get his permission to throw another one of these on a different day.

Entry List

Edit (6/11/09): Well, we don't have very many people getting their fenders rolled, apparently, but Robbie and his family are being nice enough to let us use their garage with a lift and Robbie's going to be BBQing burgers, etc. We still need people to bring drinks (no alcohol allowed), chips and salsa, Brats, buns, tomato, lettuce, onion, etc and whatever else you may want to bring. Think potluck and post up what you may bring.

Rolling begins at 9am and I imagine the BBQ will get fired up around noon. Here's Robbie's address:

Its down off the So. Meadows Pkwy Exit off 395

My cell is 240-9891

Edit: (6/12/09)

A note from RobbY: :D

Anyone and everyone is welcome to come, and if you want, after we are done rolling fenders, I am more than willing to put anyones car on the rack that wants it up there so you can check it out from a different perspective than on your back. People are welcome to do fluid changes as well at this event once the main objective is accomplished, but I will say that you need to take your excess fluids with you and dispose of them by yourself, usually i will accomodate this but with the number of people I feel will be making an appearence i cannot take responsibility for the fluids you drain from your car.

1. I and only I operate the lift, this is for insurance and safety reasons. Cory (MPREZIV) if you show your fine as I know you know what your doing but anyone else, Only Cory or I may operate the hoist. It has the potential for catastrophic failure and this can come back on my parents, which I am not willing to risk.
2. No booze - This isn't me its my parents request
3. No tobbaco - again by parental request, theres a school across the street where you may go and smoke/chew whatever you want to do but not on my property as per my mommy,
4. Excess fluids must be disposed of personally, I am not responsible for your waste!
5. Respect - All I ask is you respect my personal property as I am allowing you to use it, and we wont have any problems.

I hate to be a bastard and be a rule maker, these are more my parents rules than mine, but I please ask you to respect them, and hopefully in the future maybe we can make a semi-annual SECCS Install day/BBQ at my house.
Please respect these rules as Robby's parents are our gracious hosts and these are their rules.

I would suggest that you ensure someone w/ fender rolling experience is there to supervise. Like you said, it's pretty straightforward (especially if you don't care about your paint... otherwise it's still straightforward but you need to be careful w/ the heat gun and very patient to make sure the paint doesn't crack). The problem is that if someone doesn't know what they're doing and gets a little aggressive with the tool, the roller can be damaged by the fender lip (in addition to a crappy looking fender), and I'd hate to see sybir's tool get marred when he's been so cool about helping the club out by loaning it to so many folks.

As far as club donations, people can always hit us up via paypal at "paypal@seccs.org". And thanks to Cody and Aaron for setting this up, and thanks to anyone that donates!

I have experience so I can supervise.
Cody, if there is a good number of people (5 or more), we can have it at my place which is kinda central for Reno, even though you live in Stead.
Let me know.

cody 2009-06-05 04:38 PM

Awesome, Mike, thanks. Let's see how it goes. If we have a large enough demand, maybe we could do one day at my place and one at yours.

BTW, I probably won't be near a computer from now until Sunday night. Peace!

I'll try to make it. I don't have any vehicles that are at less than the full 37 pieces of flare, but I can stand there and say "slow down, go slower, you're doing it w0rng!" as well as anybody. :)

I will go if I can get my trans. fixed by then.

cody 2009-06-07 05:27 PM

Alright, Moose, do you need your fenders rolled or are you just volunteering to supervise?

cody 2009-06-07 05:48 PM

Oh, does anyone have any 17X8 wheels with 245/40/17's or other 245 width tires I can test fit one or two of after I roll mine? :)

I will be there to supervise. I might roll my rears a little more so I will bring $20 just in case though.

moose 2009-06-07 05:52 PM

Cool, first post updated. We already have 4 people on the list.

Mary, please confirm you can make it on Sunday.

And cash is fine if you don't have Paypal. I'll just pocket it and paypal it to SECCS, myself.

youloze 2009-06-07 06:25 PM

In, put me as #5 on the list please :)

Thanks Cody

I could probably help you out. 17 x 8.5's too big?

cody 2009-06-07 06:49 PM

If they have 245's, that should be a great test. What tires? :)

Edit: and what offset are the wheels? With all the camber I run, they may rub on the struts. It'd be fun to try though.

You're in, youloze.

MattR 2009-06-07 06:51 PM

They are 245-40-17 Yoko Advan A048. Cooked well-done.

SpamMan 2009-06-08 03:31 PM

Me... i want in.. thanks cody..

cody 2009-06-08 03:51 PM

Thanks bratha...:D

If im still at work fli will drive my car to your house...

wildfirefli 2009-06-09 12:25 PM

um. yeah sunday after work for me. Mine don't need to be rolled and I'm beyond broke so. I'll be sportin the WRBSPAMCAR

cody 2009-06-09 12:46 PM

Okay, I'll pull you from the list then, Mare. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Does anyone have any spacers I could use with Matt's wheels. They're pretty much guaranteed to rub my stock sized struts considering the high offset and all the neg. camber I run. Or does anyone have any other wheels with 245 wide tires I could quickly test fit? I just don't want to role any further than necessary and I don't want to order tires that I can't fit before next season.

Also, if you have extra jackstands, maybe bring them just in case. I have 4 but the two I use in front are very tall and the two I use in the rear are very old. They work though so no biggie.

Just get some washers from HF.

+1

A few stacks of fender washers will be enough to offset the wheel and torque it down enough to check wheel clearance... just don't drive on 'em!

+1 it would be way noisy. If your going to drive on them you will need to get some rubber garden hose washers to stick in there too. Then obviously you would be bumped to garden class in auto-x.

cody 2009-06-09 01:13 PM

Yah, so anyway, if anyone has any wheel spacers, please let me know.
