Help installing replacement clutch this week

So I just ordered my new Exedy clutch kit but would appreciate any help this week Wednesday or Thursday depending on when shipment arrives. I'm doing this job with Moose but would appreciate the help of 1 or 2 other experienced clutch guys, so we can reduce a 9 hour job to a 6 or less. I'm not paying anyone but i'll be getting dirty with you guys learning and i'll provide 2-3 meals depending on length of job and drinks all day. I'll also return the favor the next time one of you needs a clutch replacement.

If you guys interested have limited time that day any time would be useful even if you only help for 1-2 hours. Anyways hope I don't get flamed but figured if there was a good place to find guys who want free beer and food to work on a car, this was it.

This week? or this coming week?

Clippersfan86 2010-02-10 05:01 PM

Clutch kit arriving Monday or Tuesday. So i'm thinking middle of next week. Free shipping 1-2 business day delivery guarantee! From AM Autoparts. Cost me $307 for full kit. I even got to order through PayPal so I know i'm not going to get owned lol.

Uber, i can help you out ... a lil.. I can remove your starter in like 10-15 minutes (it has 2 bolts you need to undo to decouple the tranny and motor) ... last time i did a clutch by myself took me a few months...

didn't know what i was doing at the time but i've learned a lot since then... (still not a great mechanic though)

Clippersfan86 2010-02-10 05:59 PM

Sure dude. Tommy may be helping for a short while. I'll hit you up if we are shorthanded or you can just stop by Moose's if it's ok with him and lend a hand or hang. You can remove starter while I drop the tranny on Moose's arm.

100_Percent_Juice 2010-02-10 10:35 PM

You are doing this with moose... at moose's house? ...Bring a flashlight.

All kidding aside I might be able to swing by and give a hand for an hour or so. Moose has my # if you guys get stuck.

Clippersfan86 2010-02-11 07:34 AM

Ok thanks Joel. Haha is the flashlight thing an inside joke?

bluestreak 2010-02-11 08:27 AM

Ive done this a few times - I could lend a hand for a few hours. Let me know when you are going to do it

100_Percent_Juice 2010-02-11 08:53 AM

The flashlight means you will be there late into the night with moose.

ROFL. Well he has this real good lamp now so i'm ready for the 1 AM exit. LOL.

bigrobwoot 2010-02-11 04:57 PM

If you're dropping the tranny, dont forget to unbolt the tiny ground wire on top of it, like everyone (including me) does.

Next time, MAPerformance has those kits for about $250, if you just got the OEM replacement. And if bluestreak goes, I might go with

Clippersfan86 2010-02-11 07:55 PM

I pmed Bluestreak. I'll let you know if he's coming.

bigrobwoot 2010-02-11 08:55 PM

He'll let me know, he's my roommate lol

What day were you thinking about doing this? and I'm assuming you meant next week, right?

Clippersfan86 2010-02-11 09:41 PM

Haha didn't know Rob. My clutch is a 1-2 business day delivery. It was shipped this morning so i'm assuming Monday or Tuesday it arrives. I'm thinking Wednesday or Thursday would be the clutch swap day. Sorry for anyone confused by me saying this week. I look too far ahead sometimes. I meant this up coming week ; ). I've been a day behind the last couple days. I thought today was Friday for example.

Rob while we are at it lets do a full swap. I want your dark blue paint so we will swap engines, seats, trannies, brake systems, steering wheels and suspension.

bigrobwoot 2010-02-11 10:30 PM

Haha sounds good, but in exchange for the paint, I get your brakes and interior. And you should have left suspension off of that list, I've put some decent money into mine haha

I got the TR so your interior is probably not much worse my friend! The braking systems on the 06-07 from what I understand are way expensive! I guess a good paint job is 5k plus though so it's a fair trade! I wonder how hard this project would be haha? Hey my suspension is doing very nice after today! Moose added my 1" rear spacers and we tightened up my struts and my ride is very smooth now and not brutal. I don't think struts were blown, just installed improperly last time. I learned all 4 of my struts are KYB's lol. I thought they were OEM.

cody 2010-02-12 01:32 PM

KYB made the OEM struts for my car anyway.

Ah. the 06 TR didn't come with KYB's apparently because Austin's stock struts weren't the same and we both have 06 TR's. I was going to swap for his stocks but realized mine still had life in them. We put the yellow spring thing on the strut that was on Austins struts (mine were missing it) and now my car makes 0 noise and the ride is MUCH smoother. I also think last time they weren't installed properly like I mentioned.

The other possibility is Austin's stock ones are KYB's but mine are aftermarket ones.

cody 2010-02-12 02:00 PM

If the yellow things are foam things that slide onto the strut shaft, they're bumpstops and shouldn't effect ride quality under normal conditions.

Ah Moose called them bumpstops. All I know is now my car doesn't slam hard on every bump and have lots of thumps and rattles. If it's not the bumpstops it's definitely that the struts were installed improperly by the shop previously.

cody 2010-02-12 02:09 PM

Sometimes after an install, parts just need to be retorqued. One of my rears started clunking a couple months after installing Koni Inserts even though we torqued everything to spec. I just had to retorque the main nut in the center of the tophat and the clunking went away.

Clippersfan86 2010-02-12 02:16 PM

Haha that's funny. Yea last time I tried torquing them the noise returned in 3-4 hours. This time i've been driving over every huge bump I can find and no problems. I'm really pleased with this. Moose did good work and I just hope it keeps this way. Btw i'll have pictures up in a sec for you guys on the 1" rear lift. I had the saggy ass and now it looks AMAZING! ;). I'm glad I went with my instincts and had Shane (Paranoid Fabrications) make me the custom 1". Half inch is the max in stock and I definitely needed more.
