Happy birthday man.

That sounds vaguely racist. :?:

Either way, HBD Khail!

MPREZIV 2009-11-19 12:07 PM

Dean's just showing his age with the "coon's age" comment... :P

Happy Birthday Khail!

Happy Birthday Khail!

If Dean were showing his age through language, he'd be posting in Latin.

Vos es vetus, Dean!

Kevin M 2009-11-19 12:23 PM

Latin? More like grunts and hand gestures.

Meh... lots of people today still speak that way.

Alternative joke:

But Dean's not deaf.

Not racist... Coon was not used as a derogatory term related to "black folk" until the 1850s. NO, I WAS NOT THERE, but my older brother was. :P

Prior to that it related to raccoons, country bumpkins and the leader of the Whigs political party. For some reason, in the early 1800s, raccoons were believe to be long lived.

I picked the phrase up at Harrah's from coworkers years ago.

So what you said was an early 1800's catchphrase, but has had racial denotations for the last 150 years. Got it. :P

What I just learned today: people at Harrah's are closet racists.

tysonK 2009-11-19 12:41 PM

Do it up.

No, what I said was that the phrase "a coons's age" meaning a long time, predates the derogatory use of the single word coon and is therefore not racist in any manner. :P

And Harrah's people are weird, not racist, no closet involved. :)

ScottyS 2009-11-19 04:02 PM

I at least have heard "a coon's age" used before. Benefits of a classical education.

Oh, HBD Khail!
