Wow. Another great show, they were seriously on hit. Much longer than the one we saw in Davis. I can't remember every track but there was a great blend of stuff from all the past albums and With Teeth, and some random singles like Deep and Burn thrown in. The sound was tight and clean, at least where we were standing. I thought it was much better than last time, at Davis I thought the bass was way too loud & boomy and was overwhelming everything else, but this was some of the best sound I've heard at any live show ever.

At one point during March of the Pigs there was a lull, and Trent just looked around the gym for a few seconds and then said "I think this maybe the wierdest place we've ever played..."

Sweet! I hope they play a nice long set tonight too! I'm all fired up... all I'm missing is the black hair.

Was it worthy?

I had a great time. Most the older songs were a bit different from the albums and previous concerts I've seen. NIN really puts on a good show. And the audio was surprisingly good... usually shows like that are too loud. Maybe that's just 'cause we sat pretty far back from the stage this time.

New album news. Scheduled to hit shelves April 17.

Album Title - Year Zero

01 Hyperpower!
02 The Beginning of the End
03 Survivalism
04 The Good Soldier
05 Vessel
06 Me, I'm Not
07 Capital G
08 My Violent Heart
09 The Warning
10 God Given
11 Meet Your Master
12 The Greater Good
13 The Great Destroyer
14 Another Version of the Truth
15 In This Twilight
16 Zero-Sum

And there is a weird viral marketing campaign (maybe) surrounding the new album. Apparently, on his last tour, the European dates had certain letters printed in a different color. Those letters spelled out I am trying to believe.

Eventually, someone found http://iamtryingtobelieve.com/
and then these other following links which all are very similar in the subject matter of a near future dystopia.

Woah, cool stuff! Are those supposed to be web pages from a post-apocalyptic future? Very John Titor feeling.

AtomicLabMonkey 2007-02-19 07:27 PM

Ok that's bad ass. Trent is decreasing his cycle time between albums...

MattR 2007-02-19 07:52 PM

I thinkI heard a new single on KRZQ today. I have no idea what it was called.

Nick Koan 2007-02-19 08:53 PM

BTW, two songs have been released on the nin myspace page. http://www.myspace.com/nin

Survivalism and My Violent Heart

Can't say I'm a fan of Survivalism. But I like My Violent Heart.

cody 2007-02-19 10:44 PM

I like both songs, can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

What disc is that? My copy of Broken was just one disc IIRC.

Joeyy 2007-03-03 12:01 PM

They put Physical and Suck on a three inch disc that came with Broken when I first purchased it way way way back in the day.

Free streaming of the new album straight from Trent.

I just started listening to it... very similar to With Teeth, clearly written at the same time as the last album, but it's a little less epic sounding... sorta like it's With Teeth moved away from The Fragile and towards PHM. Also, I'm noticing a lot of themes and riffs from previous albums... for example Survivalism has lot's of Downward Spiral in it. Kinda cool.

tysonK 2007-04-05 12:16 PM

Directv 101 is playing a bunch of concert footage from the last tour or something this month.

Wow, he's really making this album open source. The entire album will be available for download in multitrack format, so anyone can remix it any way they like.

Yeah, but you have to have a Mac to edit it... so that's like what maybe 40 people? :P

I've been listening to the new album a bit more. I'm really starting to dig it. "Capital G" is sweet:

Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we've been doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me

Well I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Traded in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G

Don't give a shit about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about

Ain't gonna worry about no future generations and
I'm sure somebody gonna figure it out

Don't try to tell me that some power can corrupt a person
You haven't had enough to know what its like
You're only angry cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head because you know that I'm right, alright!

Well I used to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
There's a lot of me inside you
Maybe you're afraid to see

Well I used to stand for something

Traded in my god for this one

Also, "zero sum" is kinda haunting...

AtomicLabMonkey 2007-08-08 01:54 PM

You know, the first time I listened through Year Zero I wasn't overwhelmed.. but now that I've played it a few times it's seriously grown on me. I can't stop listening to certain tracks, they're almost hypnotic...

The Good Soldier and Zero-Sum are incredible songs. But I think the album overall isn't as good as With Teeth, and I'm more of a fan of the Fragile style stuff.

cody 2007-08-08 07:26 PM

Pretty Hate Machine was the best. Downward Spiral had some goodies. That "Every day is exactly the same" song wreaks.
