No Turbo Miatas for Reno...
I stopped by Reno Mazda, and they ain't getting a single one at all this model year! Mega crap!!!
I guess they will all end up in Florida, and SoCal. May have to wait until 2005 model year. |

so take an NA, a modified Greddy turbo kit, a set of coil overs, some light 15s and the typical bracing and you can outperform it (by a long shot) at a MUCH lower price... hell, even a JRSC would make an NA outperform the MS NB.
|
oh, btw, Miatas are something i do know :)

Where can you get:

I think what STIWish was saying is that you can build up a cool used Miata for not much money.
But I agree that if you want a new one, For Under $900 sticker difference from an LS, I'd take the Mazdaspeed version instead of going aftermarket considering a new aftermarket Turbo kits run from about 2K-5K and that doesn't get you the rest of the goodies on the Mazdaspeed version. |
Ahh, that would make more sense.

However, I believe a turbo'd or supercharged 1st or 2nd gen Miata would not only be way cheaper, it'd also be way faster. |
John Evans' Miata is a great example of how much you can do to an older Miata...
I'd like the updated internals on the '04+ MS, and think of the chipping options with them only making 30 some odd HP stock. lets say that is a nice conservative 11PSI... Think of what 14 or 15 would do... The updated safety, suspension, LSD, and ABS would be nice as well. Really hard to add all that to the older ones. I did the research before Sue got hers. Basically, if I were going to get one today for the street, it would be an '01+ LS with the sport suspension(Includes strut-tower brace, Bilstein shocks, 16-inch alloy wheels, Torsen limited-slip differential, bigger brakes.), 6spd, and ABS. All that plus a turbo in the MS would be so much nicer though... |
NA == first gen... NB == second gen ... the NB gained a decent amount of weight on the NA, and due to lack of truely affordable options for boosting IE; no $1100 Greddy kit, I'll take the NA both on the track and on the street, as I dont need nor want ABS or even airbags.
|
I look at ABS as a tire-saver, it cuts down on your race tire bill due to flat spots... that's about all it's good for on my car, anyway.
|
I already have a race car. This Miata will be a daily driver (at least for a few years) so the newness, warranty, and greater reliability are more important than a few extra horsepower. Besides, I won't leave it TOTALLY stock. ;)
|
heh, i wont make the mistake of letting someone else besides me own my car... unless im TOTALLY secure financially and am totally single (well, this is a given)... but thats just me.

Aha... I know why Reno doesn't get any...
They are not a MazdaSpeed Dealership... In fact, very few Mazda dealerships are allowed to carry MazdaSpeed vehicles... Here are the ones remotely close to us. And everybody but Carson has at least 2 of them! Carso has zero. CARSON CITY MAZDA 3550 SO. CARSON STREET CARSON CITY, NEVADA 89701 Phone: 775-841-9696 MAZDA OF STOCKTON 3003 AUTO CENTER CIRCLE.
