Autocross Classes... looks like I'm SM for now
Like the title says, looks like I'm Street Modified as my car is right now... That means I gotta compete with LabMonkey... crap!
I can get 'er down to ESP if I take off my MBC and ALK... 'course if I run on street tires, then I'll be in STX... But the car's so much fun w/ my boost all cranked up, and I don't want to pull of the ALK just yet, so I'm gonna start the season in SM and see how I pax out with everyone else. Chances are I'll need coilovers and R-rubber to be competative, but I'll give it a whirl! |
Hey dont feel bad I have to run in that class to and I am on stock wheels. Its all good cause now I can get the EXEDE and ECUTEK and then I will rock it.

Hehe... OWN3D! That's cool though, we'll run in the same group now. If you get some good race wheels/tires and a stiffer coil-over setup on your car it's gonna be the bomb. I'm still thinking about coming up to Reno for the SCCA auto-x on the 26-27th... I'm probably gonna be own3d up there cause the car won't make any power. This weekend I'm hitting up Golden Gate Fields for the SFR region auto-x, should be a good shakedown of the new chassis setup.

Scott, you know what the pax factors are, right?
What tires are you going to run? |
Whats that?

I'm going to run my Kuhmo 712's, plain old street tires... I plan to get some dedicated rims/tires for racing once I can afford them, but I'm not sure if I'm going to go with street tires and un-mod my car down to STX, or get some phatty r-compounds and stick it out in SM. Basically I want to see how stiff the competition is in SM and STX... if a 300+hp WRX on coilovers and r-compounds has a chance to win SM, then I'll got for it (i.e. get some coilovers and r-compounds), otherwise I'll take off the ALK and boost controller and run in STX where I know I'll be competative... unless my driving sucks . A few more questions: Are there different subclasses of SM, like there are in SP? Is there a pax for SM-N in Reno so I can be a bit more competative on street tires? |
Nope... SM is just SM, it's pretty wide open. That means you could be in there with some seriously fast, seriously modified cars. I think the only real restriction on car model is that it has to have 4 seats from the factory, so 2-seat sports cars like Porsches & Corvettes can't enter. The fastest cars I've seen in SM so far have been modified M3's, but you could run up against anything from WRX's to Audi's to M3's to Camaros/Mustangs.
