Spark Plugs

I searched and didn't know if we had talked about the different types of spark plugs. I will need to get some new ones for the 30k service and had gone over the basics of the ones available.

So we have the standard (copper I think), then platinum, double-platinum (is this just a gimmick?), and iridium. I think that all of them have a gap at .044?

Quetion is, is it really worth it to spend the ~35$ for Iridiums? What are the stock ones considered? Copper?

Thanks for anyone's input on this.

IIRC the benefit of irridium plugs is mostly that they last longer. I read a good tech report somewhere... lemme see if I can find it.

Advantages of Iridium spark plug types
Because of the properties of Iridium, the spark plugs centre electrode can be made with a much smaller diameter than with platinum types (usually 0.8mm for NGK and 0.7mm for Denso), Gold or gold palladium and copper/nickel types. This means that spark plugs potential difference is more concentrated and hence less 'spark jump' voltage is required - this can be as much as 5,000 volts less than with standard plug types. Ignition is improved and less strain is placed on the ignition system. Benefits of improved ignition/combustion include better fuel economy, increased power/acceleration and especially better throttle response.

They really make it seem they are worth it over platinum's. Just hard to justify paying almost triple the cost of double platinum's.
