Earnhardt Jr./ Boris Said team up for sonoma ride!

Looks like the ALMS Corvette Factory GTS team will field a 3rd Corvette C5-R for the ALMS race later this month in Sonoma. The co-drivers will be none other than Boris Said and Dale Earnhardt Jr.!!! Now if that's not reason enough to go, I don't know what is...

Also, Chevy/ Corvette is promoting the event among many different corvette clubs, so chance are, it will be a corvette car meet at infineon, with an ALMS race on the side...(Not sure what to think of that) Hopefully a few noisy Subarus won't ruin their weekend.

Anyway, just wanted to pass that along...

Yeah, heard that on the radio today. Wierd.

Kevin M 2004-07-06 10:22 PM

I watched Boris come in second in a race this week. Damned if I can remember which one though. :P He was driving a Jag and lost to Tommy Kendall.

That would be the Trans-Am series...

Well, does this mean we can go to the S-Squared dyno day?

Or is Star Mazda and Speed TC good enough reason to miss it?

Are you saying to blow off Saturday? If we do that, I will probably take my time getting ready for my Bremerton trip. And come down late Sat. Though I think the Saturday stuff will be cool.

No I'm saying we go to the S-Squared dyno day instead of the Saturday ALMS events.

Saw video of Jr's crash in practice... that fire looked pretty scary, it completely engulfed him in the cockpit.

MikeSTI 2004-07-19 01:48 PM

2nd degree burns on 6% of his body... inside of legs and chin... he's expected to be in good enough condition for NIS this weekend, and will make a full recovery.

It was during morning practice before I got there. Nicole might have been there by then. The accident happened when Jr. spun (I'm not sure if he had help spinning) in the esses... The car went tail-first into a wall breaking the fuel filler neck and dumping a ton of fule over everything. About a second later all the gas burst into fire! You can see the spot in the pictures Tyson took... where the track is all white, that's from the fire extinguishers and chem-dry stuff.

MikeSTI 2004-07-20 11:18 AM

I wounder if he will try it again? Must be a lot different then going in circle's

Apparently he spun himself out on his warm up lap... the team attributed the wreck to "a cold track, cold tires & full fuel load". Oops. Perhaps he'll rethink his driving habits after this little incident. And wear his nomex underoos under his suit next time.
