wirering harness

will a harness for a wrx fit on my STI?

Kevin M 2004-08-05 04:20 PM

No. What exactly are you looking to use?

IheartSTI 2004-08-05 04:42 PM

a turbo timer

Kevin M 2004-08-05 04:44 PM

Ah, then the 04 WRX harness may be the same as the STi one, but I wouldn't count on it.

And here's the obligatory you-don't-need-a-turbo-timer-for-safety comment. It's just bling/rice.

IheartSTI 2004-08-05 04:48 PM

i think there dope...i think rice is apc and shit, and i think bling is 20's

Kevin M 2004-08-05 04:53 PM

Okay, so I did some digging, and the 04 STi will work with the 02-04 WRX harness. Not sure yet about 05, and I can't remember which year you have, sorry.

And there's nothing wrong with using a turbo timer, it just doesn't make your turbo last longer like it did back in the days of turbo Zs and Supras.

IheartSTI 2004-08-05 05:55 PM

why not? what is different between the turbo's?

Kevin M 2004-08-05 10:21 PM

It's water-cooled for one, and for another Subaru designed a convection flow into the system to make the coolant circulate by convection even after you turn the motor off. The information is in your owner's manual too.

You know, that thing you're supposed to read to see why your parking lights won't go off...

I have a turbo timer, most of my friends with turbo cars have turbo timers, and people who dont usually let their car cool for a bit. I think it's a good thing for turbo cars to have because without them, it just puts more abuse on the turbos.

There has been much debate about this. Subaru claims it isn't necessary anymore, for the reasons BAN SUVS listed above. The general consensus is that a turbo timer (on a wrx) is not necessary, but it also won't hurt.
