New rice!

Everybody yell at me about pulling out my airbag now :)

http://neurosybir.net/sybir/DCP_1633.JPG

We'll see how long this lasts, I think I'm going to trade Nate for the dished suede 2-spoke on the coupe, and I have a JDM Legacy Momo lying around too ;)

Car feels so much more responsive with a smaller wheel.

Consider yourself yelled at...

I would also be willing to bet that now if you or anyone driving your car is injured in an accident, your insurance company might be able to elect to not pay as you modified a peice of safety equipmnt, and your rate was based on a car with a driver's side airbag, and you ain't got one...

Just MHO... I anm not an insurance company, lawyer, etc... Taking my advice would be like taking that of a groud hog somewhere back east that might or might not have seen his shadow...

looks nice, but ahhhh, think you could clean the dash?  :D

ArthurS 2004-08-16 12:28 AM

I am not a claims adjuster, so it would be hard for me to say what will or will not happen. I do know we offer discount for having airbag equipment, so maybe they would just remove the discount?

If you really want, I can find out tomorrow for sure.

sybir 2004-08-16 05:43 AM

If you could find out, I'm curious.

Dash has already been cleaned, that pic was at 1 AM after putting it in on a whim, lol.

I actually have a different Momo on there now that's a more traditional clean 3-spoke.
The whole idea was to have something to drive around with while I get the stock one re-wrapped with some new contouring, as 170k miles haven't been kind to the leather, and the wheel is a little spindly, but if there's a way I could get away with it with just a slight hike (or loss of discount) I'd go that way, because I'm only marginally comfortable with the first-gen airbag in the car. (and aftermarket wheels feel so nice.)

I have AAA now, I'm going to try calling then with the "I'm looking at buying a car that has the airbag removed, would you insure it" line and see what happens, but if you could find out what your company does, that'd be cool, Art. Thanks!

ArthurS 2004-08-16 12:40 PM

okay, here is the word from the local claims adjuster in Reno.

He said, due to the fact that there are other vehicles on the road today that due not have airbags, we could still insure a car that has had them removed, but we could not offer the discount for having a airbag. He also said that if you were involved in a physical damage claim, the shop you brought your car to for repairs would HAVE to re-install a airbag.

But he did say we would insure it and could still pay out if a claim where to have happened.

Of course this can be different from company to company. I also put a call into our actual Claims Service Center with has the final word regarding these harder questions.

You rock, sir. That's exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like as long as I'm proactive, I'll be OK.

ArthurS 2004-08-16 01:15 PM

Basically....but do double check with AAA.

sybir 2004-08-16 05:53 PM

Oh, of course. Thanks very much!

I thought he was like a peasant or something, that became a Knight, rescued Gweniveer (or however you spell that chick's name), and became King. 'Course I don't really know my "history" for that period.

Everything I know about Midevil England I learned from these two guys:
