Find me a car
Ok everyone, find my replacment car... Shoot for $6500 and under, anything goes...
Meanwhile i'm going to find me things for my 78 so I can get it running... |
I have an 88 Isuzu Impulse with a broken window. I'll sell it to you for, say, $6495.87. And you tow it out of my parking lot. Oh, you probably want a car that runs I guess.
|
Yes it must run, and preferably NOT automatic :p
|
I can get just about anything (reasonable) 5 years and older for that price. so what are some options that you might be thinking of?
I think my dad said he has a Honda Accord 2 door 5 speed coming to Reno soon I think it was a 95'. I can also get you all kinds of Interga's (excluding the Type R) for under that price. |
Go buy that DSM in Tahoe... I talked to Nate about it yesterday, and he says the 1st gens are the way to go, and from the desription thinks it is a good deal at $3500, and better at $3K...
The only downside of the '90s is no ABS... There is also a 98 Outback for under 4K and that 98 RS for under 2K at Airport Auto wreckers in Reno. Talk to MikeSTI about them... |
we also have cars at American River Auto Wreckers just down the street from S^2. if you want to get an idea of types of cars I can get. My dad goes to all the auto auctions in town so chances are I can get what you want it would just be a matter of condition you get it in and miles. we see a lot of dealer trades that the dealers dont want also.

(can anyone picture someone else saying this?) |
No DSM! Stick with scooby! :D

Preferably a scoob, starting with manual wagon imprezas with under 100k miles, then working from there... maybe 98 manual foresters, 98 RS's, 95-99 L coupes/sedans, manual 2.5 legacies, turbo legacies... etc. |
Therre is still that 90 Talon TSI, 5spd, in Gardnerville with 54,501 original miles, with primo paint and interior. The Guy's number is (775) 782-9514, he wants 3,800. I'd like to see that car in good hands
|
If that talon was like $1000 I would possibly consider thinking about it.
|
Get an SVX. 8)
|
That I would consider, if there was enough left over for a manual conversion...
|
We know someone with a SVX with the standard diff/tranny starting to fail looking to unload it... Art was going to buy it, but I think that is shelved for now.
I can put you in touch with her if you want. It is red and loaded with all options I beleive. High millage, but extremely well maintained. |
I have an SVX that needs paint and interior but the motor and trany are fine.

carfax
:D I can run a carfax for you too (until 9/19) if you need one checked. Just send me the VIN.
|
Cool thanks!

I just saw a really nice 1994 Legacy L wagon, AWD, 5-speed. The paint was in perfect condition, so was the interior. 113k miles. Aparently driven by a girl, LOL! The lot wanted $4995 for it, which is a bit too much for such an old car...
I also saw a 2000 RS 5-speed sedan. Nice car, but it had been driven off-road... Had quite a few small body damage problems. 98k miles I believe. They wanted 12900 for it, but i managed to get it down to 9500... Still too rich for my blood. Kinda funny though how the legacy was like in 2x better shape than that RS. |

It was a wierd dealer, kinda a sudo-used car/non-hassel lot... They didnt even come out to greet or anything, just sat there and I went in and was like "i'd like to check out xxx car" and they said "sure" and gave me the keys... I had to even ask the price, lol!
Im going to go up to placerville and to a few other places tommorow to look around. |
Scratch SVX's off the list, I didnt know they weighed 3500lbs!!!
Heres my priority list: 1) Impreza wagon, AWD, manual, 2.2 (95-98) 2) 92-94 Legacy Turbo in decent shape for under 4k (auto or manual, dont matter, wagon or sedan doesnt matter either) 3) Impreza RS 98 w/ lots of miles and under 6k (ya right) 4) 98 Forester manual for under 6k (also ya right) 5) 92-97 Legacy L wagon, manual, in decent shape (~3k or under for the 92-94, under 5k for the 95-97) 6) Anything else roughly like this models for under 6k... Or any other crazy deals that might show up. Stipulations: NO 1.8's!!! I had enough of that motor... Must have AWD... Manual is not a neccessity if the price is cheap enough for tranny swap money to be left over... Salvage titles are a no-no unless its a crazy deal and still a great car and is like under 2k... Serious repairs that might be needed I cant afford them unless the car is damn cheap... |
Man you really need to go after that 1994 Legacy you posted above. If you can get it under 4k it would be totally worth it to have something nice with great exterior and interior. That's hard to find.
|
Ya, that 94 was pretty awesome. However, its only 130hp, weighs 3000lbs (as opposed to the 95-99 L wagon which weighs 2900lbs), and its like only the first car ive seen thats good... It was made in Japan though, and the build quality is really good on those years, and if it was a turbo i would have bought it forsure.
I just found out barsottis wont be back til september 13th, which sucks, but I know he will have some good stuff to look at... |
