$10,000 Engine Budget what to do?

OK. So Super Street is having a contest in which you are given $10,000 to do and extreme engine makeover(I know). You need to buy some 104+ Import Performance Boost from Gold Eagle and include the original dated receipt. While jumping on the TLC bandwagon is annoying I will enter this contest with the hopes of winning $10,000 to spend on my engine. Oh kayyyy.

So I thought maybe you guys could throw out some ideas:

Forged Internals (I have no idea what kind)
V mount radiator/intercooler deal (I figured it’s in the WRC car right)
Giagantoor Turbo?

I’m probably going to try to be funny in the letter. I’m probably not going to win. I’m probably going to do something with the suspension before I ever do anything with the engine.

Man, I really don't know how to spend $10k on an engine. Even I haven't managed to do that. :P

Kostamojen 2004-09-11 10:20 PM

I could do it easily, 2x over...

Rigioli swap :D

Of course the whole having a car issue...

Althought, the 78 could use a new engine :D

sybir 2004-09-11 10:35 PM

I've seen stranger things than a '78 with a crazy motor.....

You're gonna put a 350Z twin turbo in your STI?

*ducks*

I don't know how I'd spend that, though I'd find a way...:)

You guys know about Axis power racing? Thats awesome.

I say you get a better transmition, rods, pistons, the best fuel managment system you can afford, 660cc injectors, 255plh fuel pump, and of course, The Green

From what I have read they use the Green for the Stage 2(which ever one they chnage the turbo in) Vishnu STi packages.

tysonK 2004-09-12 05:53 PM

so here's my pathetic attempt I know I'm missing some important stuff:

I kinda went with the bling factor a bit. I wanted to go all out on the block but that gets pretty expensive.

$2,599
Crawford Performance S2 (very simlar to Stage 2 Axis Motor )
2.5 Liter USDM STi Block
STi 79mm Forged Crank

STi Rods

$1,375
The FP4906H or FPGreen (ryan this is pretty mean looking turbo)
30 psi Boost Capable
TDO6H turbine wheel
400-450whp Capable

$1,200
Awesome Custom S-Squared Exhaust
Capable of Looking good and Sounding Awesome

$1,440
Perrin Performance FMIC

$2,090
EcuTek 650
Perrin Fuel Rail 440
Power Enterprise 800cc Injectors 650
Walbro Fuel pump 100

Hey Tyson... what's the cost of installation for all that? I think you blew your budget by about $3000.

Yah I was planning on doing the install in You and Matt's Garage!

Seriously though your right, It's really easy to blow 10,000!

MikeK 2004-09-12 07:17 PM

Nice list tyson!

I would add either JDM STi heads ($1800 used?) or some other kind of head work.

Yah Im going to pretty much re-conceptulize the whole list!

Because there are a lot parts that are not inclusive.

sp00ln 2004-09-12 08:32 PM

You're going to need a better transmition. You'll distroy yours in a sec if you get the green. You can easily get near 400whp with the green with a proper tune/mod support.

Well I guess hypothetically if I won I could sell all my WRX engine and parts for a transmission upgrade. 8)

I could trade you my transmission for your old transmission/motor if you want. Just offering.

Hey... you gotta believe to make it happen :)

murphy 2004-09-14 08:48 AM

Man I'd go nuts with a 10k budget for and engine..and I'd use it all up.

sperry 2004-09-14 08:54 AM

$10k really isn't that much. I guess it's a lot for building up a stock motor w/ bolt-ons... but if you really want to build a motor... that $10k would be gone before you even get to the bolt-ons!

Forged internals + cams + trick heads + port/polish + blueprinting + overboring + labor for all that, and you're damn near out of money.

Never mind all the custom intake/intercooler/headers/exhaust, electronics, fuel delivery, turbo(s), dyno tuning... I could spend $30k in a week, and still be only just getting started.
