Welcome!

Welcome to the Subaru Chat Forum!

I set this up as a meeting place for Reno Subaru Owners. Since we don't have our own forum on NASIOC, I figured we could coordinate meets, and chat about Reno life here!

Cool, I'm here now, the site is looking great. Carry on

ArthurS 2002-12-05 07:01 PM

Okay, I registered here. Site looks great, the forum is much more graphic. Good work.

Thanks!

The main site is all my own custom php code, the forums are phpbb (writing a reliable bulitin board is a nightmare), which is very similar to vBullitin, but free.

phpbb is really nice and easy to setup, props to the guys that programmed it!

I just wish I could easily get rid of the phpbb logo and put my doink.net logo up there, and a link back to the homepage would be nice too... maybe I should get my hack on and change it, hehe!

I just had to post in the Subaru area since I drive a Ford. Although Fords and the 302c.i. V8 were indeed built by the hands of God, let me just say that I have great respect for many other types of cars out there, including but not limited to the WRX.

*Gets out flame shield*

JC responded to a post I had over at NASIOC and told me about this forum. It's nice to see a place for this area to interact.

I brought home the WRX last month and I'm having a blast setting it up. Just did the up-down pipe changeover (skinned knuckles) , along with Samco's. The Turbo XS UTEC is in route, so the fun begins shortly.

Take care,

Kevin

Welcome Kevin!

That rex sounds like it's gonna be a handfull! D'you have tuning experience? Fear of blowing my motor up keeps me away from UTECs and Links and the like... I'd be interested in finding out how that works out for you!

Good Luck!

KenpoKev 2003-02-27 09:02 AM

Hi Scott,
I'm showing my age here, but my experience with motors goes back to the early 70's. Not that I'm a great mechanic or anything, I've just tinkered with cars & bikes a good deal.

As long as you use some of the tuned maps that are available with UTEC's you'll not likely damage your motor. In fact the Turbo XS and Vishnu units will likely make your car run MORE efficiently. It isn't unusual for stock mapping to be overly lean in order to pass stringent smog regs. As a result those lean settings can cause problems. Going to aftermarket computers gives you outstanding tunability with some excellent electronic automatic control to protect your engine from detonation or excessive boost conditions. You also can pass all the tailpipe tests by simply switching to the stock map :)

The Turbo XS unit is due here today, so after I teach tonight, I may hook it up. I'll start a new thread with details.

Hey Kevin,

Sounds like you have a awsome setup going. I have only had my car for about 3 months and I haven't done really anything to it yet.

Isn;t genoa outside of Carson a ways? I think I had a social with a sorority out there at a golf course and then went to some hot springs the next day. Hmmmm.....hot springs......(Watching it snow outside  )

KenpoKev 2003-02-27 03:37 PM

Genoa is a postage stamp sized community just south of Carson and near Minden. There's a primo golf course Genoa Lakes, as well as Walley's Hot Springs. Oh, and Nevada's oldest bar, which looks like Nevada's oldest bar.

Nice little community for the most part and really convenient to Lake Tahoe.

Any houses for sale cheap down there? I'm talking 3 dbr for say $60,000, that's worth living in? Oh and it needs room for a shooting range on the lot... I gotta start the "Compound".

KenpoKev 2003-02-28 07:55 AM

$60K in Genoa will not even purchase a 1/2 acre lot. For that kind of cash, you'll need to look east into the desert areas. Don't expect much in the way of a house, but you'll likely find plenty of shootin' spots, likely right out the back "yard".

AtomicLabMonkey 2003-02-28 08:27 AM

Dude, you need to do as the man says and start the compound out east in a desert area.. so what if it's in the middle of nowhere, that just means less chance for surveillance from federal authorities lol.

We meet every Thursday night at 7 pm. Normally we meet at the 4th Turn Bar and Grill in Reno next to Lithia Subaru. But we are unsure of this weeks meeting spot due to the construction at 4th Turn. We may be meeting at Stingers Bar and Grill again at 7 pm.

Check the threads about the meets tomorrow.
