|
Yes, the west coast Ferrari club is putting on the VC hillclimb this weekend. And I'm gonna miss it. :(
|
What day/times?
|
I think it's Fri/ Sat...not sure though...I might cruise up there, I'm just not sure where to go to watch. Anybody want to go scout it out after the meet tonight?
|
I'm interested in an adventure up the hill :D
|
Well, I live in Silver City and the races are this weekend for sure. If you stop at the y in the road for the truck rout to VC (they race on the truck route) you can walk around and see the cars. If you go into Silver City, go east up the hill on 2nd st. Turn right on high street. And then make a left at the end of the pavement you will go by the cemetery (on the right) and up a hill to a good spot to watch the race. The road will be closed at the hill climb but you can park and hike to a good spot to watch.
I live at the top of the town off First Street. Let me know if you are coming up and maybe we can meet up. Theo |
Theo, do we need to come up through carson? around through Moundhouse? I've been to Silver City plenty of times, but will the road be closed early?
|
Matt,
No you can come through VC. The truck route is closed but the main road will be open. The race ends in VC but it ends on a long straight and you can't get to a place to see the race easily. From Silver City you can watch the start and drive up in the hills and watch some driving action. With a some ground clearence you can drive up the ridge and see a lot of the course. If you hike around there are some great spots to watch from. Theo Quote:

Some pics I took a few years ago...

That double wing (yellow Porsche) would look great on my car!
Not. |
That CTR2 is a dedicated hillclimb car, IIRC, so at least there's a purpose for that big wing......

what time sat. morning does it start? does anyone want to meet me? let me now asap
|
Is it going on tomorrow?

If so awesome! |
Yup, to the best of my recollection. I saw it a couple years back in one of the lots at Pebble Beach, guy had it in town for some of the other car shows that week and drove it around Monterey. Had a ton of RUF badging and that's not the sort of badge-engineering most sensible Porschephiles would do if it wasn't a RUF. Crazy, crazy fast from what I've heard.
|
I competed in the hill climb this past weekend. Had some fast runs on the Saturday session. Sunday session didn't go so well. On my 3rd run after two warmup runs, I spun on turn 18 and nearly totalled my car and possibly myself. Fortunately, damage was limited to the front bumper cover, intercooler end tank and possibly radiator. Going backwards at 60 mph plus up there was enough to cause me to s h i t deer pellets for the rest of the week!

That totally sucks. I am so sorry to hear that happened to you and your car. I hope you didn't get hurt. :(

Wow! Adam you're the man! That takes some balls...I guess that car is equipped for it though...Hope there's not too much damage...

The front bumper cover basically grazed a metal roadside marker during the spin. |

Turn 12?
|
Adam! You're the man! Now I really wish I had gotten out there to watch, one of the local boys was out there mixing it up w/ the Ferraris!!
Glad to hear you're okay... and that the car isn't too badly damaged. At least you've still got the Syclone to bomb around in! |
Sorry about the car Adam, but that was awesome you attended.

Btw, on my lunch hour today, I drove up to the spot where I lost it in order to better understand what had happened. From all the information I gathered from the cornerworkers and my pesonal experience, here's what I've determined. I early-apexed the corner. I like doing this sometimes as it's fun sliding the car a bit to set up the next turn. What happened was the car launched off the inside of the turn as that part of the road acted like a ramp causing my front wheels to leave the ground. This was eyewitnessed by a corner worker. I drifted to far to the outside of the road and ran out of asphalt causing my right tires to land in the extremely narrow section of dirt. I corrected the wheel the other way and lifted so the car would rotate. This kept me from going into the rocky hillside. Check out the picture of the skidmarks. |
Nice pic!
Considering the lack of guardrail there... nice work only dinging the bumper and IC pipe! I'm still totally fired up that you ran that thing in the hill-climb... that RULES! I need a cage in my WRX. |
