New member.. but not from Reno

I thought I'd introduce myself and all that good stuff... my actual name is Justin and I am actually about 4 hours out of Reno in Bishop, CA... I have a fully stock (for the next couple weeks until payday) WR Blue 03 WRX Sedan that I picked up around a month ago... love the car. Anyways, I was wondering if the Reno meets were open to even us yuppy californians, would love to hit them up considering there is no import action, nor fans for at least 4 hours in any direction of me... or you could have skipped over all of this and just read 'yo'.

MattR 2003-05-08 09:27 PM

Welcome aboard!!! I have some really good freinds from Bishop, and I've heard there are NO imports to be found, haha, you should come up and check out a meet for sure, and especially an autocross or two...see ya

ArthurS 2003-05-08 09:28 PM

Yea its open. We have them every week now on Thursday's and Auto-X meets most weekends. Just keep a eye on the board.

Welcome aboard. :D

STIwish 2003-05-08 09:31 PM

MattR, who? I probably know them, everyone knows everyone around here :)

sperry 2003-05-08 09:33 PM

Welcome to the board!!

We'd love to have you come by! Even tho it says "Reno" and "Subaru" on the forum's title, we're happy to have anyone from anywhere driving whatever, as long as you're enthusiastic about cars!

You won't be the only non-Reno person on the board either, there's people from Tahoe, Winnemucca, Carson... even Livermore! We're actually trying to come up with a club name that includes the entire Sierra Nevada area.

The next "official" meet is next Thursday, but there's rumors of an install day this weekend, but since I'm not involved in it (I'll be in Sacramento) I don't have any details.

MattR 2003-05-08 09:35 PM

I've heard, hahahaha! It probably depends on how old you are...I usually don;t bust out with everyones names online, but do you know the Mike and Shawn Graves, Dan Stewart, etc, etc??? Feels like high school

STIwish 2003-05-08 09:45 PM

LOL!! Yeah, I know who Shawn Graves and Dan Stewart are... BUHS class of 98... i was a sophomore when they graduated.

MattR 2003-05-08 09:46 PM

hahah, small world...anyway, maybe you can make it up soon, You'd definately enjoy the group...

STIwish 2003-05-08 09:50 PM

I'll probably hit it next Thursday, just gimme a time and place... (after of course I clear it with the wife)

tysonK 2003-05-08 10:36 PM

I think I saw you on the COBB broad right, I PM'ed you. So it looks like you maybe got it. Thanks for the support.

tyso/\/

STIwish 2003-05-08 10:38 PM

Yup, I got it, I'm not a big fan of the COBB board... too much bias towards guess who? The PM is the reason I found Doink, thanks for the tip Tyson.

tysonK 2003-05-08 10:49 PM

Yah the COBB broad is really just a small group of people with a bunch of "IN" jokes and they hardly ever answer newbie questions. Here's a typical new thread on the COBB forum:

http://www.wrxforum.com/cgi-bin/ulti...c;f=2;t=001255

This broad actually cares about it's member b/c most of us know each other, and help each other. You really can't beat standing around in frigid temperatures in a Starbucks parking lot bullshiting about wether or not to get springs or coil-overs and what a good way to get reliable performance is :!:

!

Can't wait to meet up with you guys, as I said, I will hopefully be there next Thursday... sorry though, nothing interesting under the hood... yet. I am actually looking at Kakimoto GT1 OZ axle back for a start (I just want to hear how obnoxious it really is first), Godspeed Uppipe, A-pillar pod and boost gauge, and ofcourse, the wonderful MBC... but thats for starters :)

Sounds like a nice start. There are a few of us 'stock people' that go to the meets. So you won't be the only one. I have only a few things done to mine.

But much more to come

dknv 2003-05-09 07:46 AM

Of everyone here, I'll probably stay the closest to stock. But, well, if rallying comes along, who knows? I might need another daily driver so I can try a new sport!

Welcome STIwish! We have an autocross event in Hawthorne on May 24/25, which is a little closer to you. You'd be welcome to come out & join us, the Reno club competes against the Las Vegas club for a trophy. The event is at the Hawthorne airport, across from Safeway; you're welcome to come out & check it out, or come out & race with us. We welcome new and experienced racers.

Liar. You have the feared Tow Bolt Mod!

dknv 2003-05-12 02:52 PM

Don't you mean my turbo-spooler-charger?

I removed it, due to manual warning of interference with SBS. Need another mod now.

SBS? The "Subaru Bumper System"?

STIwish 2003-05-12 08:24 PM

Some of you guys should come down this way, there is a 'charity' time trials event that takes place on the old Manzanar Air field (near Lone Pine) this weekend, is going to be awesome.. always some trick cars, and hopefully I wont be the only WRX out there.

ArthurS 2003-05-12 09:01 PM

How far is that from Reno? I might be interested in taking a drive down there.

STIwish 2003-05-13 08:39 PM

tysonK 2003-05-13 08:45 PM

Seriously, if you wanna go. I wouldn't mind getting out of town this weekend. Is it both days?

STIwish 2003-05-13 08:55 PM

Yeah, is Saturday and Sunday in Lone Pine... I haven't even inquired on what is required and that stuff but my guess is just registration and a helmet.. the number for information listed is Kelly Moon 626-812-8688 ... ill find out more tomorrow from my father (he runs most years in his Miata)
