phpBB 2.0.11 (plus phpBB worm)

phpBB 2.0.10 and earlier versions had a security issue which a new worm is exploiting (which also defaces the site). I highly recommend upgrading to 2.0.11.

scott is on vacation!

I'm sure he'll get on it.

Thanks for the heads-up, Joel.

btw - what's happened with your car repair?

JoelK 2005-01-10 02:32 PM

Finally got the car back on Thursday. They ended up putting about $4300 worth of work into it and the pole cost another $600. I have an STI front bumper now, and I need to buy the STI winglets. Everything seems to be pretty much as it was before although the brakes seem slightly less effective (tough to tell since I haven't driven it for 1.5 months).

It's just good to be back on the road again. I really missed driving my car when all this snow has been on the ground. I'm weird in that I LOVE driving in the snow as long as I can see.

Join the crowd, we're weird too. :D

Weird??? No way!!! I just wish it would snow like this each and every year .. (Just like it did back in the day here in Reno .. ;)

Scott, I know you're busy, but it would really be a good idea to update phpBB. There is a worm going around defacing phpBB sites, and it will eventually hit us. Better to prevent before it strikes.

Kevin M 2005-01-17 05:11 PM

The problem is the fact that Scott has spent a LOT of time writing fixes and scripts to the site, which may or may not still work with the update. If it wasn't for that, we'd have had every update the day it was available.

dknv 2005-01-17 06:36 PM

Joel, what is the worm?
If it defaces the site, does that mean the site goes down & we have to rebuild?
(Scott - I assume your code is backed up, so even if/when we get hit by something we can restore & be back up & running fairly painlessly.)

When Joel say the site will be defaced.

I can only picture logging in and the site has spray paint marks all over it like you make in MSPaint. I'm laughing to myself.

  That's a funny visual. Good job Tyson.

Okay, I completed the update... and I only had to manually patch 2 files.

There are probably some issues for those of you running the subSilver scheme, but since that's not the forum default, I don't think I'm gonna worry too much about updating it.

If anyone sees any issues after the update, let me know!

JoelK 2005-01-18 11:05 AM

Looks ok to me.

BTW, this is the worm I was talking about:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...erl.santy.html

Looks like google has begun blocking the worm's search attempts, which helps reduce spreading.
