Word of the Day: Pogonip

The weather we had this morning...

Pogonip
Pronunciation: 'päg-&-"nip
Function: noun
Etymology: Shoshone paγinappih cloud
: a dense winter fog containing frozen particles that is formed in deep mountain valleys of the western U.S.

Nick Koan 2005-01-17 02:17 PM

Wow, there is actually a word for the weather we got this morning?

sti deede 2005-01-17 02:19 PM

So in other words freezing, icy, death fog, as Matt would say.
Good stuff.

Then you are looking for "out-of-bounds" "Back Country" Pogonip... Just be sure to wear your transponder.

It's not as bad as this morning, but it's still there. I can see Peavine too.

Yeah its getting pretty town here in town. The lights and the tennis courts across the street and lighting up the entire area, making it really hard to see when your driving. gerr.

Dean 2005-01-19 11:36 PM

Damn it was thick on the way home. Probably be real bad in the AM.

I need the disable low beams mod. The fogs were definitely working better than the lows. I guess if you have the driver's seat adjustable headlights, you could crank them down... The 04 US STI HIDs aren't driver adjustable are they? It is only the Euro, or JDMs isn't it?

tysonK 2005-01-20 12:04 AM

My lights are pointed pretty low right now.

They work great! The fog was viscous coming home at 7:30.

Nope, USDM's are adjustable...I run with mine on the 1 setting in heavy fog... Goes
0= Straight down
1
2
3=In oncoming eyes.

Didn't you do that last week too? Perhaps it's time for some more capable shoes?

Or, just get a tube of that Shoe-Goo stuff and add some ridges to the soles of your boots. It wears out quick, but while it lasts it really improves ice traction.

I had good shoes on today, I was just not being careful...I really fucked myself up this time too...my back hurts bad.

A bag of ice/snow melt might be a good investment... Cheaper than Chiropracters.

Except you have to go walk around on the ice and snow to spread it out... plus that's a lot of snow melting to do when it's not even your own property. :P

Yeah, its been happening in random locations...I'm not going to carry a bag of ice melt everywhere I go, I just need to lock myself in my house and never leave....

All of my falls have happened prior to 7:30 am, since no other assholes are up at that time, I'm the first one to walk into places, and I discoveer that ice melt is needed...

The worst part of my digger this morning was that my keu chain went flying and I had to look through the snow to find it ...fuck.
