OMFG!!! I thought the film had been sped up!

Dean 2005-01-30 12:07 AM

Damn... By listening to the engine, I think he actually hit whatever the aero speed limit the car has on a couple of those "straights"....

The sheer number of turns on that thing is mind boggling... I'm sure you could learn it, but even then, having your eyes up has got to be a requirement just to jog the brain cells early enough as to what is next...

Now Kevin, I would agree, that probably isn't a great track for your first track event! :)

Yea, the Porsches just crawling along was a dead giveaway of that...

LetItRev 2005-01-30 12:29 PM

Intense! I had to watch that last straight twice!

I think he was definitely maxed on the long straight after the second banked turn. I felt like firing up GPL and driving the ring after watching that.. 8)

Döttinger Höhe... I think *any* car that's setup for the rest of the 'Ring will top out on that straight, unless you've got like 8 gears.

I keep watching this video over and I see something new every time. DAMN that car is fast.

Our mustang is built up enough that things start happening pretty fast when you're on track, but that GTR just takes it to a completely different level. I have a new respect for Stuck's driving skills..

MikeSTI 2005-01-31 01:01 PM

did you really watch the driver? I think in one of the straights he could have shifted up one more time then he finds himself looking for the shifter in another shoot where he thought he was in a higher gear :P

just razzen he's an awsome driver 8)

Jumping at Nurburing...That's Hans behind the wheel of that car..I believe that is taken at or near the "Flugplatz" turn at the ring...

Sweet, here's an older jumping BMW, again, Hans behind the wheel...I guess he's made a few laps around that circuit over the years.

Well, the other one has more air, so it got top billing...I used to have a clip of the late 80's/ Early 90's Group-C Sauber Mercedes Prototype running the straight at the nurburing, and it's wipers blew off the windshield and were spinning around like string... Crazy... That happened at Le Mans too.

Nick Koan 2005-01-31 02:12 PM

Typical Mercedes quality

MattR 2005-01-31 02:19 PM

By the way, I've watched that video a few times thru, and like Austin said, I see new things every time, just when I think I've got a 'feel' for the course..I swear it changes..

Anyway, the speed that car carries, and the amount of time it's spent wide open in the top hole lets you know he's flying...

Very impressive vid.

Isn't that the car that got a little breeze under it, then proceeded to lift off the tarmac and do like 3 back-flips enroute to the trees off the side of the straight?

Yeah, so? They fixed the windshield wiper problem though.

I'm sure this guy is really happy the wipers work better.

MattR 2005-01-31 02:54 PM

Dude, that will buff right out...

That's a fine example of what happens when your flux-capacitor kicks in BEFORE hitting 88 MPH.

Damn

"Flugplatz" would make sense for this picture.

For our German impaired viewers, "Flugplatz" in German means airport. Literally translated, it means "A place to fly."

Well, cars have been jumping that section for years... assuming Grand Prix Legends is accurate. I can get my Lotus to leap about 100 ft, 5 feet in the air. The only problem is that you land into a right hand sweeper with a nice hill on the outside that likes to put an F1 car on it's lid.
