It sounds like the place Scott took his WRX did a pretty good, and very thorough job, stripping the hood, etc.......

Ya but I dunno if they'd just do those pieces. Is there a place you guys use? It would be nice to be able to drop my car off there and have you guys have them sent out. ;)

There's a place by the shop that's done body stuff for us in the past, but I haven't seen any finished jobs. I can get an idea of what it'd run if you'd like; prep, flex, color, clear?

Sure, they gotta strip the old paint off the skirts too. Spats should be ok. Might be a month or so before I get the car down there though.

If Shaber has the time to do 'em, I'm sure they'd come out really well done... however, when I asked about painted side skirts (the 1st time my car was in there), Bruce shyed away from wanting to do the work because the side skirts were textured plastic, and he didn't think he could get the paint to stick to it as well as he'd want it.

You see, Bruce is a perfectionist... For example: he didn't think the paint would be smooth enough on my hood, so he chemically stripped all the old paint before priming and re-painting it. And my front bumper was so hammered from cones and curbs that he repaired all the scratches and dents on it before painting to make sure it would be smooth as well. Plus he pulled some dents out of my fenders before painting. And he didn't charge me or the insurance company extra because he said "well the insurance was only covering the sand damage, and I didn't want to paint the car w/o fixing those things 1st".

So, my guess is that Bruce's work would be second to none on the side skirts, but you might have to talk him into doing the work. :)

So wait, you got your WRX painted and DIDN'T paint the skirts? Damn you Scott. I don't need my skirts to be perfect, if they were it'd just make the rest of my car look worse. lol

Bruce said he didn't want to do it the first time he painted the car... why would he change his mind... my side skirts have only gotten more and more beat to hell. In fact, the seam under the car down there is so beat now, I'm not even sure I could get the skirts off.

But, I just realized as Matt and I were loading the car on the trailer, that they didn't paint the rear door they were supposed to paint. I guess the car will be back in the body shop for more work once it comes back from Nate. I'll ask about the side skirts then.

Yep, 6MT should be in by the track day in 2 weeks... if it's not, then I gotta talk to ET about getting a good rental price on one of her Spec Miatas... but I'd much rather have my car up and running.

JC 2005-05-16 09:02 PM

So when's the SVX going 5spd?
