Wing shipped, arrived cracked =(

I've been to 2 shops, who quoted the damage at about $300+. The company who shipped it said that they would compensate me for the damage, but deliberations are going slow. The shipping co doesn't seem to want to claim responsability. Anyone know a place that does fiberglass work that wouldn't drain my money? Or any other alternative?

Thanks...I hope.

:(

Sorry, I'm of no help, but that sucks man. Good luck.

JC 2005-05-31 09:23 PM

Damn man, that's bad. Who did you buy it from? I'd get re-embursed and get another one.

JonnydaJibba 2005-05-31 09:44 PM

I got it from Top Car Wing. They said they would reimburse me if I have a shop fix it, but so far, that would cost more then the wing.

Yah, I say a new wing from the vendor is in order. Send that cracked product back.

Nah, jus tsurious, because you should be able to file a freight claimm, as long as the damage to the carton was noted at delivery...

JonnydaJibba 2005-06-01 04:17 PM

The shipping co is either UPS or FedEx. Top Car Wing is filing a claim against whichever one it is. They want pics of the box, but the box is pretty spotless. I might just have to call the shipping co myself.

At least I got my new(er) trunk on today. :D

The company you bought it from chose the shipper. They must replace it at their cost. Don't settle for a repair. At that point you might as well have paid for a re-furbished or used product. Givemhell.

JonnydaJibba 2005-06-02 05:02 PM

This is from Top Car Wing.
"(2) I have spent a long time arguing with the boss to attain this second option. The second option is that we will give you a replacement for the item free of charge, but the shipping costs would have to be paid by you. As before, the shipping would cost $100 since the customs fee for products over US$200 costs $40 just to get past the customs office... not even including the shipping costs of the courier company... "

Had I known they offered shipping insurance (it wasn't ANYWHERE within the shipping options) none of this would have happened. So...basically I have to pay $100 for the UPS's F up.

JC 2005-06-02 05:06 PM

That's bullshit.

If the box was undamaged, then it was packed incorectly which is entirely their fault. Even if the box was damaged, it is the shipper's option to ship an item uninsured, and unless otherwise stated in writting, they are taking the risk doing so, not the buyer.

Did you pay with a credit card? If so, you can tell them to shove it and challenge the charge on your credit card. Also, they are more than welcome to provide a seller paid return shipping label, or you will provide proof of distruction if they would prefer.

You would be happy to post this experience on every Subaru web site in the known world as well, and you would like to be able to post a positive outcome.

P.S. The replacement has no value since it is a replacement for something that has already had customs paid.

LetItRev 2005-06-02 07:07 PM

What Dean said and...

I hope you paid with a credit card. If so, call them, explain what has happened, that you wish to dispute the charges, etc.

They will then start the process which usually involves you filling out a form, stating what occured etc.

Keep us posted.

JonnydaJibba 2005-06-02 11:26 PM

This is the deal, UPS won't cover the damage, so I am just going to send Top Car Wing $100 to cover shipping of a new wing(they are in Canada), and I will just keep this wing. And they will insure the package this time. First thought that came to my head was "Hell yeah, I'll sell this bitch," which is what the dude suggested I do.

All this was a pain in the ass, but I must say it turned out pretty good. Maybe even a profit to be made here. You'll probably see it in the classifieds sometime in the near future, probably after I get it repaired.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. All I had to do was lay my foot down, or put it down? I dunno.
