going to take 6-8 months to get here and cost more than ANYTHING I have EVER bought for my car OR bike. But I fuggin LOVE it. :)

Nick Koan 2005-08-04 10:05 AM

Nice!

I fully support your decision to buy this wing.

.. thats it.. everything dies

bruspeed 2005-08-04 11:16 AM

I kinda like it and assuming that you go with a cleaner look than the graphiced up car in the pics, It might look down right schweeet!!

AtomicLabMonkey 2005-08-04 11:43 AM

What's with the 4 inner support plates? It's like having 5 mini-wings instead of 1 long wing. I can't see that being good for the effective aspect ratio.

sperry 2005-08-04 11:45 AM

Okay, I'll be the 1st to say it, and I'll be as nice as possible:

That thing is *hideously gawdy*. I don't even think they look good on the actual rally car!

...however, if you're really looking for that authentic rally car look, you really can't beat that. Plus, it's probably pretty functional, since it really seems to match the design of the WRC wing closely. I'd just never put it on my car, unless I was building a real-deal rally car that needed it for aero purposes.

:P

It's a replica of the actual WRC wing. They need a lot of verticle surface (rudder style) because they spend a lot of time sideways at low speeds. So they get an aero downforce at high speed from the wing/spoiler effect, and an anti-yaw rudder effect from the verticle surfaces at lower speeds while drifting.

The idea as it was explained to me (though, you may have some better insight) is for those slats to help direct air over the wing while sideways.

Ahh, I was wondering if maybe that was why. Flow straightening at high yaw angles would make sense.

MikeSTI 2005-08-04 12:32 PM

"you wont get pulled over with that" ;)

I didn't think Prodrive sold the real one. Plus it would probably cost more than my tranny and engine swap... I know Phil said it was expensive but $10,000+ for a spoiler is retarded.

U53D 2005-08-04 12:46 PM

phil youre my hero...

They do I've seen them for sale.

dayofpain 2005-08-04 12:57 PM

real honest to god prodrive baby. hence the 6-8 month wait. its going to be "around" 2500 + shipping from either jpn or england. shipping being of course "around" 500 bucks.

replica part the closest one I could find is NOT carbon. It would cost 1200 + shipping from the ONLY peeps that make it using the real mold of the real prodrive one. It would be Frp and unpainted. soooooo heres my logic

shipping on frp replica 500
shipping on "real" one 500

that negates that...

prodrive quality carbon wing 2500

replica frp good quality wing 1200

seems "about" right. most frp hoods are 700 bucks and 1400 for a carbon one.

considering the tight quarters of the wing and the overall complexity in its design i dont feel 2500 is "too much"

10k? yeah id get the big ghey fuckhead award for that one.

that would be like buying the s203 seats from recaro... you know the 15,000 dollar ones

Damn.

Well, now you're required to go 100 mph with the back-end hanging out at 30 degrees on a regular basis to make sure you get your money's worth.

JC 2005-08-04 01:51 PM

Someone be sure to post pictures of this when it's installed.
