The time has come...
Pics for those of you that live in some boring state in the south.

Ever. The point of this thread is actually to discuss my car. I am currently Stage 2 and have all sorts of various other goodies. Getting ready for the last autocross of the season I was trying to get my up-pipe installed and get a custom tune before Oct 2/3. Also, remembering my last fiasco of almost taking out the whole finish line and only taking 6 cones with me I was also going to attempt to get new pads and SS brake lines. After thinking long and hard I decided I did not want to be broke for the rest of the school year and to take it easy with the mods. If you've read this far I applaud you. Mike and I were discussing at the last meet about parting out my car and selling it for a used STi. My car is a 2003 and I just hit 29,000 miles. I was thinking if I tried I could combine the part out and the car for a total of 21,000 or 22,000. Used 2004 STis can be had for anywhere from 23,000 to 25,000 with decent milage. So, I think I pretty much just need to hop on the bandwagon and trade in my bugeye for an STi. This would be happening starting in about March(Just in time for next season) Opinions? |
Do it. Unless you specifically want to run STX or D Stock, the Sti is the cheaper long-term solution to the go-fast bug. Just keep any future mods cheap, basic, and easy to swap the stock stuff back while you save up a few grand so you can be choosy about which used STi you buy, and not have to settle for the first one that you can get with the cash you'll have from parting out.

Bah to you peat. I like the buggies...

Do it! You can sink a retarded a mount of money into that car and it won't be as fast as an STi. Don't spend another cent on it between now and then either.
I think you are overestimating what you will get for your WRX ... but I think you are also overestimating how much a used STi will cost you. In October last year when I was looking the average price was around $25-26K, but at least once a week one would come up for around 23k that looked to be in decent shape. (They usually sold within hours of being posted). By march next year, you should definately be able to find one for under 20K, as long as you are not in a rush to buy. |

Nooooooo, bugeyes fo' life!!!!

Well I figure I will get someone to bite at for my car at 18,000 or so. It really is in near perfect condition, it will have new all seasons on it and just had it's 30k mile service done. I was totaling up how much I've spent and it seems I have $4500 of mods so I'm guessing parting out I would probably get 3000? People who have done this let me know if I am being realistic?
I've only been looking for an STi for about a week so I'm sure I will find a good deal come spring and be able to hop on it. The allure of the STi is not/barely having to mod it. Keep my turboback and get a tune, springs and a rear swaybar and it will be plenty for me. Then it's time to work on my driving. I'm sure it will be harder to win a non Novice class. |

I think you are over-estimating what you can get out of your mods for sure. You might be able to get 18k out of the car if you can wait a while because of the area. Either way it's way worth it to get an STi if you can swing it. |
Yeah Pete, thanks for thinking of us.
Your car looks really nice with the STi wing. You still haven't gotten rid of those damn dealer plate frames though! Hahaha. I think if you honestly want to go for the STi and you can financally swing it, go for it. You've been talking about doing it for quite some time. If it's gone before I come home I've got to say, I'm going to miss that noise maker. |
Yeah, $3000 for your mods is probably expecting too much. Post up what you'll have for sale, and whether or not you already have stock parts to replace it with, and we can give you an idea of what you'll get. Within the ballpark.
|
I kind of knew from the from the beginning it was going to go back to stock someday so i still have all the stock peices.
Current List 03/04 Cobb Accesport 02/03 Eibach Prokit Espiler JGT500 Catback Invidia Downpipe(Probably keeping) APS Up-pipe HKS SSQV w/ recirc kit 17x8 Gunmetallic Rota Revs RE070s with 3k on them Pink I badge Carbon Fiber Sidemarkers 02/03 STi Hoodscoop PSM STi Wing and Trunk PSM Painted Sideskirts PSM Kartboy Shifter Bushings Sony Xplod Deck with Ipod jack Some amp and sub that I'm not sure off the top of my head. Also is 18,000 really too much? It is sounding like a lot the more I am thinking about this. This will actually be the first car I've sold myself so all help is appreciated. |
Your exhaust and the stereo stuff will transfer over to an STi, as well as your wheels/tires (maybe) if you get an '04. But you'll be lucky to clear 12-1500 bucks for the rest, most of that from the accessport. :(
|
I know most of the stuff would transfer, but I am just going to get rid of it. The Revs don't clear brembos and the only reason I would keep them is for winter wheels. The catback tapers down to 2.5". The only peices I would keep are the Downpipe and the I badge and possibly RE070s. The rest I would be selling.
|
Ah, that helps. Maybe $2k. But you never know- Egan down in Sac managed to get like 95% of what he invested into his WRX when he parted it out after buying his STi. :p
|
Forgotten - How big are those wheels? 16"?
|
Those are 17x8 Rota Revs (et. +48, 5x100, the only size and fitment available).
|
Ah, my bad. I was looking at his sig and for some reason I thought they were the same one on his car. Um... yeah, I want 16s like the one on his sig. Do you guys know where to get a set?
Sorry for somewhat hijacking this thread :P |

Yep, JC has it right. I wish I had those volks. I'll finally fork out for nice wheels once I get the STi.
|
I really dig that first picture, did you mean to frame the seccs sticker so well? Cool
|
I'm glad someone else thought it was cool, thanks Matt.
|
