Since everyone says my car looks like a camry...

Now we can expect even more Toyota's and Subaru's looking alike!

TOKYO, Nov 09, 2005 (XFN-ASIA via COMTEX) -- Toyota Motor Corp plans to contract out to Subaru brand car maker Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd the full redesign of an existing model, possibly a sporty subcompact, and hopes to roll out the remodeled version in two to three years, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported without citing sources.

Toyota became Fuji Heavy's major shareholder after purchasing a stake from General Motors Corp in October.

The business daily said the vehicle to be remodeled by Fuji Heavy has yet to be determined, but a sporty subcompact -- a type of vehicle in which the automaker is known for -- is seen as a likely candidate.

The remodeled car will be made at a Toyota factory and put on the market in two to three years.

All hail the Toyotaru! er... Subota!

...wait, how about a AWD, Turbocharged, GT car? Rebirth the B11S/SVX as the new Supra! ...wait, I forgot the Supra's gonna be a Lexus, ain't it?

MPREZIV 2005-11-08 07:12 PM

My understanding of the Supra thing is it's about the same place as the USDM Skyline: it will likely happen, just no solid plans yet. Unless some development has taken place that I'm unaware of...

The potential of this merger is pretty good though. Let's just hope it's not some bastardised Corrolla/Impreza piece of shit!

Sporty subcompact? AWD Toyota w/boxer?

The USDM ricer's Holy Grail!!!

I used to have a corolla just like that. Minus the light bar, and probably all the other stuff that makes it off-road worthy :p

That's a camry wagon bitch. As a camry owner you should be ashamed.

Of course! My bad.

Ricer heaven = AWD Corolla Boxer w/VTec badging, then. With drift tires from the factory.

Kevin M 2005-11-09 05:07 PM

VTEC!!!! TURBO!!!!!

Bob Danger 2005-11-09 05:41 PM

Toyota doesn't have VTEC its VVTL-I. As a toyota owner all I have to say is, I wish I still had my Subaru.
