Anyone want an '02 WRX ECU with an ECUTek license?
So, I'm having problems getting a working fix for my ECU from ECUTek. We're not able to prevent the CEL's created by the TGV deletes. So I'm thinking about switching to Cobb's Access Port, since they use a different method for preventing TGV delete CELs. Plus, the LiveTuning feature should help Nate at the shop get my car dialed in a bit quicker, considering all the weird tuning issues my motor's been giving him.
If I get an AP, marrying it to my ECU will kill my ECUTek license, so I though I'd see if anyone was interested... I figure I'll sell it for say $300 + a stock '02 or '03 ECU that I can use the AP on. That way you get ECUTek for half price, and I effectively get an AP for half price. Anyone interested? Also, does anyone have a used Access Port for a bugeye WRX? |
Welcome to the dark side young Scottwalker. You will henceforth be known as Doink Vader.
Next thing you know, you will be buying street, I mean StarTuner so you don't have to keep taking your droids into town to get them tuned up. |
Whatever gets the job done, man.
|
Well, I think Nick S and I are the only 2 Ecutek cars left...hmm.. right? Interesting.

Oh that's right.

The AP simply locks out particular CELs, rather than ECUTek's method of changing the parameters that cause the CEL. So while I think ECUTek's solution is the "right" solution, AP's actually works, since it just suppresses the CEL entirely. Also, since I've probably got hours and hours of tuning left to do, skipping the 5 minute per reflash required by ECUTek will save me money, which is what the ProTuner's live-tuner function allows. I'm just not interested in paying $600 for the AP when I've already got a solution that should work installed on the car... so I'm trying to differ that as much as possible by selling my ECU for a little cash and a factory ECU. If anyone's interested, I can have Nate put a stock map on my ECU so it can be swapped w/o having to be tuned immedately, and of course you can bring it to any shop for tuning, not just S-Squared. |
Yeah, I totally understand...Eric's won't work though?

STi and WRX (or more specifically, cable and electronic throttle) accessports are different. Or something.

And there are some potential issues w/ swapping '02 and '03 ECU's, but I don't really know the details... it's something like if you put an '03 in an '02 you get a CEL, but '02 goes into an '03, no problem. |
Right, the 03 cars have an extra sensor in the fuel tank (or something like that) that will trip the CEL if you put an 03 ECU into an '02. An 02 works in an '03 with no issues.

...bug-eyes seem suddenly rare! :( |
I don't, but I'll check at the next meet :|
If I hadn't already swapped ECU's with Dan, I'd have one, but my only ECU already has an Ecutek license :| |

I know we have a couple new bugeye owners in the group. Dean 2 and I think Nick 3, or is it Scott 2? Whatever... Speak up boys... Scott's desperate and willing to deal :)
Even if you don't have other mods yet, a stage 1 map will give you some extra juice. I assume Nate could flash a stage 1 on it without paying for dyno time... |
I'd be all over this if I didn't already have a Protune. Good deal!
|
Like Dean said, I can probably get Nate to put whatever base map you want on the car... right now I'm planning on just flashing it with a stock map, so it'll be a stock ECU + an ECUTek license.
However, the way this would work best is if whoever's interested goes to the shop in Sac (where my car is currently), trades me ECU's, and hops on the dyno for an hour to get a custom tune. Including the dyno time, you'll get a custom tuned reflash for around $500! |
