Here's another license plate question; front plates..

I take it mounting front plates in this state is mandatory?

If so, how many of you don't use them, and have you been pulled and/or fined for it?

If I absolutely have to use mine, I'm cutting it down first. -.-

MattR 2006-01-15 06:28 PM

I don't have one on the Subaru, and have never been bothered. If it was my daily driver, I'd proabbly have it on though.

I've got no front plates on either of my cars, and have never had a problem. I think the law is usually used just as an excuse for the cops to pull you over if they want to. So if you're in a riced out something-or-other, they'll use it to pull you, but if you're driving mom's camry w/o the plate, no one will care. Also, if you're pulled over and piss off the cop, expect to get nailed for the missing plate as well.

Basically, if you're gonna be jackassing around on the street, put the plate on just to give the cops one less thing to nail you for, but if you drive like grandma, it probably doens't matter.

actually, they passed a law that were if you dodnt have place to mount it up front you dont have to. They actually said most imports are included. I dont have mine on.

Ah. I was thinking about mentioning, if yanked, that I can't mount it on the Impulse without a certain part. Which is partly true.

I can keep the Subaru's second plate in the car just in case.

But I could also cut it down and mount it if I wanted..

I got a ticket like 5 years ago for no front plate with my Impulse. I was at the courthouse, paying for a speeding ticket. In less than the 1/2 hour I was in there for, a meter maid had gotten me for no front plate. My meter wasn't even expired yet! I've never had a front plate on the RS either, no trouble yet.

i dont have a front plate and i bout a WRC metal plate to cover the holes, if anyone looks up front they will never be able to tell there was anything under the little plate. Haven't had a problem yet.

Thats pretty much the stupidest thing I've heard all day. That really sucks that they get you for that stuff when you are in court.

The downtown Reno meter monkey got me too. I was parked, as usual, below UNR in free city spaces next to a park. One day, inexplicably, a $40 fine showed up for "front plate missing". I was pissed, called the parking HQ, and was told to come down, show that I fixed it, and get off free. I did so, and they didn't even want to look at it --- just took the ticket and waved me out the door. The lady couldn't believe that it wasn't connected with something else, and said that they never do that. I, however, know why.

UNR has been stepping up the harassment of the free parking around campus since Lilley took the presidency from Crowley. Yearly permits for UNR parking have sextupled in price (like $300/year for parking that is still 1/3mi away from my lab), area streets were "repaired" and when the construction was over, half the available public spaces were turned into red shoulder/buffer zones instead of parking space. City meter monkeys constantly patrol the neighborhood looking to victimize students and employees who use up all pubic parking for a 1/2mi+ radius. One time I came across a meter monkey checking my car, and was verbally abused for parking with 1 foot of my bumper into the red zone (no ticket, though --- I had my digital camera ready for that). These same meter monkeys used to harass me when I had the downtown DHL delivery route a few years ago, no word if UPS got the same treatment. I treat them with complete distain whenever possible.

Wait, a what? Do you have a link to someplace that sells these?

khail19 2006-01-15 11:44 PM

I'm guessing he is referring to something like this...

I'd never seen those before. Neat. :)

GC8.Love 2006-01-16 07:57 AM

Know of anything that'll fit a GC? I may have seen something, but I can't go searching as I'm at work..

None of my 4 cars/trucks have front plates, and never been harrased, even when pulled over. (Knocks on wood)

I think the little WRX plate would only piss them off more. You used the licence plate mounting holes for a vanity item.

My A4 truly has no mounting holes because it is a dealer prep task to drill huge ugly non-symetrical holes in the bumber for this crappy ass mounting bracket that was clearly an afterthought. When I ordered it, I told/put it in writing that if they drilled holes in my bumper when it came in, they would pay for a new one...

If I had to put one on, I think I'd put it on a fog light cover so I could pop it on and off. I stole that idea from the offset bracket on the Evos.

I was pulled over in the honda with no front plate, didnt get a ticket for that, but did get a ticket for no seat belt. There is another thread that address's this issue in a lot more detail I think. I don't have one on the subie, but when I find it, I might put it back on.

JonnydaJibba 2006-01-17 08:17 AM

I have gotten pulled over twice for it, and one of those times they fined me $60. Both times by the NHP. Now I just leave it on.
