Summit

Just left there this morning, they had this little dude on sale, jack. Just thought I'd let people know, also 5 gallon air tank $30, and Rebco Pressure gauges $20 (we used these for our racing, albeit the 0-15 psi version)

Also, Scott, here is a proficient welding "kit" 130 amps should be able to weld around 3/8" steel no problem. I would say, for-go the extras (cart and such) and just buy the one with the highest amperage while still maintaining 120v, (electricity is expensive!) You're first project should be a welder cart anyways.

One more thing, the jack was pretty low profile.

cody 2006-04-07 10:37 AM

Wow, I may have to pick up that jack and an air tank...oh wait I'm carless.

Kevin M 2006-04-07 10:40 AM

That reminds me, I was in Walbogs the other day, and they had electric jacks for about $55! They plug into your accessory outlet like the compressor pumps. Very tempting, they would work well in places the jack wont work, like gravelly parking lots.

Why would they work on gravel? Broader base? Would it fit under the jack point in the front so you can lift both wheels in the air (Impreza)?

Kevin M 2006-04-07 10:49 AM

It's a bottle-jack type, the base doesn't move. It probably would fit under the car if it fits under the siderail.

cody 2006-04-07 10:51 AM

I don't get it. Why would a bottle jack be better on gravel? It has a smaller base than a floor jack. I mean, it would be easier to position, but wouldn't it sink?

Could it lift the front of an Impreza?

Kevin M 2006-04-07 11:00 AM

I said "gravelly" not "gravel." Aluminum jacks like most of us have suck ass when rocks are binding up the rollers. But it would probably work in gravel too as long as it was fairly solid dirt wit only a little gravel on top. And yes, it could lift an Impreza. It owuld have to lift 5000+ pound cars I would expect.

cody 2006-04-07 11:09 AM

I see how you are.

Dean 2006-04-07 03:17 PM

I have as yet to see a bottle jack that is short enought to fit under any sporty car. And unless you really want to bork your jack points, you need to distribute the load with a block of wood or soething which makes clearance worse...

Kevin M 2006-04-07 03:26 PM

4-1/8" high.

And you don't need to use a bloack of wood or anything if you use the fatory jack points. Take a look at the OE jack sometime, it's fine if your jack has a slot for the seam weld.

His point is your earlier post said it was...

Oh, and the Harbor Freight aluminum floor jacks are at $69.99... Probably a better deal.

And 5 Gal air tanks are $22.99, and 10 Gal are $32.99.

The HF jack is definitely a better deal, that wasn't why I brought it up. A jack that has a base that doesn't need to move to lift the car was the point, because it can be used in places where you don't have a relatively smooth, flat surface. Like old driveways, the street, RFR, part of Stead's paddock, etc.

And damn, those 5 gal tanks are calling my name...

If you go, grab me a 5 gallon tank. I'll pay you back.

I've been very hapy with my "Truck Air" compressor.(About $40) I burned up 2-3 of the cheepy compressors but the Truck air has lasted 5+ years so far. I'm not a big fan of the tanks...

I hate that thing. I'm still bleeding from it's vicious bite. :P JK

Do you just not like having to fill up the air tank or what?

Lets see, 3 or more people used my compressor to raise tires 5-10lbs per corner. Show me a tank that does that in the space of my compressor and weighs 3 pounds, has almost no chance of exploding and I'll buy it.

And I am not responsible for operator error...

Do you need a hug Dean? You sound unhappy.

A1337STI 2006-04-07 09:47 PM

I so almost bought that jack at wallmart the other day. i belive they were asking $59 ish for it. i ended up deciding on a 2.5 ton jack with a 16" lift so i could just jack up one end at a time. but you don't know how tempted i was to buy the eletric and be super lazy ... i still kinda regret not buying it. but i wanted to save the $30 and got a jack for $30 that comes with a carrying case... (damn the chineese!)
