Are RT615's directional?

They're obviously asymetrical but are they directional?

I had mine all facing the direction that looked right to me but post alignment, two look backwards to me now.

Nick Koan 2006-05-08 07:15 PM

Does it have a directional or rotation arrow on the sidewall?

cody 2006-05-08 07:22 PM

No it doesn't. Inside and outside is clearly labeled but no arrows.

Kevin M 2006-05-08 07:26 PM

They aren't directional. As long as they are mounted correctly you can rotate them any way you want.

cody 2006-05-08 07:50 PM

That's what I've read, but doesn't it look like they're directional?

Nick Koan 2006-05-08 07:52 PM

If there is no rotational arrow, then they aren't directional.

Well, no, not really. The old RT215s, RE070s, and a few other sticky summer tires that also suck in the rain are non-directional. Look at a few and you'll see the differences.

cody 2006-05-08 08:53 PM

Damn, that means two were always "backward" and I had myself fooled before.

Nick Koan 2006-05-08 10:12 PM

They couldn't have been on backwards before :p

cody 2006-05-08 10:13 PM

In my mind, two will always be backward. ;)

M3n2c3 2006-05-08 10:36 PM

Yeh, they're the same as re070s - you end up with the tread pointing in opposite directions, but the only thing you have to take into consideration is that they have a definite "outside." And they're labeled as such.

I thought it was a little odd at first, too. I imagined that since the tread was supposedly "designed" for water evacuation, having the tread going the opposite direction on one side would just screw it all up. But having driven in heavy rain on my RT615s, I can finally say that the tread doesn't matter - wet traction blows no matter what.

Alrighty, thanks guys. My brain hurts less now.

Joeyy 2006-05-10 12:30 PM

Looks like your getting ready for this weekend. It will be cool with more wagons. ;)

cody 2006-05-10 01:18 PM

Yep! We'll be in the same class too. :)

Anything I need to know to run for points? Just show up by 8 on Saturday?

Kevin M 2006-05-10 01:22 PM

Closer to 7:30 if possible to get in to tech with time to walk the course.

cody 2006-05-10 01:25 PM

It's definately possible since I live 3 miles from the Stead airport now. :)

Joeyy 2006-05-10 01:30 PM

54.244 :)

I forget your first name. What did you get?

Joeyy 2006-05-10 01:33 PM

I'm guessing that was a Sat. time.

cody 2006-05-10 01:33 PM

Yep. I only ran Saturday.

A1337STI 2006-05-10 01:46 PM

Only saturday and a full second faster then me. In my own car. Oh well, :) i've got a lot of room for improvement!

cody 2006-05-10 01:55 PM

It was a lot of luck and some good advice from Kevin. Not to mention your car is in a different class than mine as far as I'm concerned.

A1337STI 2006-05-10 03:32 PM

:P Aren't both our cars in Novice ? Or at least they were that weekend. No, I get what you mean Cody. Still , nice driving, 1st time driving an STI and you were faster then 2 or 3 owners (Emily, Me, and i ** think** Brian had a 55 that day ) ?
