got me thinking about a discussion I had about this over the weekend and figured I'd throw it out for discussion.

IMHO the reason to where shorts is to stay cool, and comfortable in the heat of summer while allowing free movement of the legs, etc.

Personally, I prefer mid thigh length. Most of the currently available ones are a bit long for my taste. The ones that go to the knee and below are just silly in my opinion.

While I am not a big fan of short-shorts, I don't see a big problem with them as long as parts remian contained. The certainly meet the functional requirements.

To around the top of the knee, MAYBE a little lower. I don't want to see hairy man thighs, or anyones satchel. At the same time, no gansta shorts/pants that look like huge flood pants.

MPREZIV 2006-05-30 09:28 AM

At least 6 inches below the center line of my knee-cap!

I can't do shorts at mid thigh, and although no-one here will ever see this, I'm sure you all appreciate it to some degree. It's not something you want to see...

For basketball i'm best off with shorts that do not cover my knees at all. for style i prefer them to cover my knees. although i ended up with non basketball shorts that don't cover the knees and basketball shorts that do. :| oh well.

Short-shorts are never okay on a man. Any violators in the Reno area will be enlisted in "Dangle's Dirty Dozen".

I will not ask you why you keep photos of officer Dangle on the ready ...

Nick Koan 2006-05-30 10:32 AM

Yes, Jim Dangle's plum smugglers are not acceptable in my opinion. I'm personally okay with just above the kneecaps when working out, and at or below for wearing around casually.

Personally, though, I hate shorts and never wear them casually. I prefer the Columbian drug lord looking thin white pants above shorts for reducing leg heat. Direct sun + my white and hairy legs == everyone pays the consequences.

Google is the one keeping them at the ready. Should come in handy the next time you look for some internet man-lovin. :)

I wish I could find shorts at or just below the kneecaps... but when you're 6'4", it doesn't matter how oversized you buy 'em they're never long enough. Once you hit 36's, they just get wider and not longer.

Those that go below are called capris. (Oh - that's for girls, I guess. ) So, you are specifically referring to the male gender, and in the oudoors environment...right? ;)

sperry 2006-05-30 01:13 PM

The guy in line in front of me at Del Taco today had shorts that *started* below the bottom of Lt. Dangel's nut-huggers. I'm not sure what keeps up pants that are sagged that low... maybe they're velcro'd to his exposed boxers. Either way, shorts worn like that are still better than short-shorts on a guy.

Nick Koan 2006-05-30 01:15 PM

Capris also taper to fit the leg, most shorts don't.

Oh, and according to that one guy at that one event early in the season, capris aren't just for girls anymore.

A1337STI 2006-05-30 01:43 PM

If you have large enough thighs and tie the draw string just right they will sag below your waist, but they won't fall off.

Yes. I fear this thread would quickly become NWS if we asked about short lengths for girls/women/ladies/females.

Nick Koan 2006-05-30 02:00 PM

Because at that point, the minimum acceptable length goes all the way to 0.

Pure Genius!

JonnydaJibba 2006-05-30 03:20 PM

Shouldn't it be: How short should shorts be?

No.

sp00ln 2006-05-30 03:51 PM

The shorts I'm wearing right now go past my knees. Not by much, but they do. I think I can pull these off though - They're Abercrombie and I'm still in my 20's :)

Kevin M 2006-05-30 04:50 PM

What about Jorts?

cody 2006-05-30 06:18 PM

I've got a drawer full of jeans just waiting for cut-offs to come back in to style.

Nick Koan 2006-05-30 06:26 PM

You, uh, want to give me some advanced warning when that shit goes down?

cody 2006-05-30 06:43 PM

Sure, what's your waist size? I have plenty to go around.

Nick Koan 2006-05-30 07:13 PM

Nah, it ain't like that son. I want a warning to get out of dodge, not a warning to come join the party.

cody 2006-05-30 07:38 PM

You wanna come to the...party...with the pants?
