June 24-25 Solo event

News flash: It's going to be crazy hot out there on the tarmac. Forecasts are for 100+ both days, so bring what you need- sunscreen, floppy hat, folding chair, yadda yadda. At least we won't have no grip from cold tires... we'll have no grip from hot tires!

NevadaSTi 2006-06-22 02:20 PM

Not gonna make it, 100% broke.

Pat R. 2006-06-22 03:01 PM

I may bring the kart out for some PM RNP action.

M3n2c3 2006-06-22 05:36 PM

Zoiks. I'll only be able to make Sunday because of f$&@ing work.

Joeyy 2006-06-22 06:09 PM

Cough, cough, cough. Dude you sound awfull and look pale. I think you should call in sick and the doctor prescribes a hot day autocrossing at Stead. :D

M3n2c3 2006-06-25 01:14 PM

Good course today. I had fun.

Dean 2006-06-25 05:47 PM

Today flowed better than yeterday IMHO. Lots of fun. Though I don't yet know where I ended up.

Saturday's course would have been much better with the Miata, or STI gearing. And, Yes, I am complaing even with a top 10 PAX Sat. in the WRX. :P

I'll post some results if Mike gets them to me tonight.

You'll have to wait one more day. I ended up helping pack cones into the bus, which caused me to nearly die, which caused me to not do the results.

MikeK 2006-06-25 06:46 PM

On a related note, my outside temp thing on the dash read 103 as I was driving home

cody 2006-06-25 06:50 PM

Today was sweet. I couldn't pull it together yesterday, but I was really happy with the course today.

I'm glad we got out of there before this wind storm came through. I'm looking out my window and there's big clouds of dust blowing around.

103 deg w/ sandstorms... what's it like living in hell?

It was crazy hot, what really sucked was working station 3... alone! I've never chased so many cones in my life. I had to call in down cones, chase them, watch for plains on that taxiway, and on coming carrs at the same time.

Yah, I thought 3 sucked too. 4 was just scary though, with cars coming at you from opposite sides, often simultaneously.

MPREZIV 2006-06-26 06:28 AM

Station 5 on Saturday sucked ass. I was RUNNING... [/forrest gump]

That track on Sarturday was f*ing AWESOME! I don't know what the deal was, but my car was perfect that day! I can't believe the times I was able to put down! Good weekend!

Yeah, I liked how the track drove both days, but there were a few issues from a logistical/operations standpoint, like most stations having huge areas to cover, and the bus being in awful position for seeing the staging cars both days.

Yeah, there were some hairy points out there. Like Bobby said, there were often times where you had cars coming at you at *high* speeds, from both directions!

cody 2006-06-26 08:21 AM

When do we get to see results?

Kevin M 2006-06-26 08:57 AM

If not tonight, then probably not for a couple weeks according to Mike.

cody 2006-06-26 08:58 AM

...a couple weeks? :(

Kevin M 2006-06-26 09:35 AM

Feel free to volunteer for T&S chief next season and never have to wait again. ;)

cody 2006-06-26 09:45 AM

I'll just be quiet then.

Something we tend to forget when we are not the ones owning the responsibility of some of these scca roles -- MikeK and Russ Carpenter (and John & John, the event chairs), among a handful of others, were at the site from early morning until the end of the day. In those kinds of temperatures we had this weekend, plus the problems that come up, plus the crabby people and the whiners, all = No More Fun.
On Sat. when I was swapping my street tires back on after morning runs, that caused me to nearly die, I had to stop & take a popsicle break, which saved me.

Thank You Mike, for all the help you give. But next time, some others need to help with cone packing duty.

p.s. Sorry to everyone whose corner stations were attacked by my car.

pps, and when I mention whiners, I am not pointing out anyone else but myself. I had to eat my words, or eat crow, or whatever that phrase is, when I nearly yelled at John Riggs in grid, that I hadn't had enough time between runs, before they wanted us to go again. My whininess was just ridiculous, considering everyone else had to cope with the short turnaround time as well. I can only explain myself as having gotten too impatient, too hot, and too irritable at my dnf's and cone runs. No excuse though.
