Grrrr... while my car was parked in the Kragens parking lot, someone in a white something brushed it... left some nasty scratches and one all the way through the paint on the left side of the rear bumper... what should I do guys? should I file through my insurance company or should i try and touch it up? Im so pissed off right now... SOOOOO pissed... :( :( :(

I just bookmarked this site, it has some explanation of car care including repairing chips & scratches. ( I found multiple chips on my hood after this past weekend - :x I'm going to have to see if I can fix them myself.)

While I was innocently qualifying for the Reno race on Sunday morning, someone in a red Miata something didn't look in her mirror and smashed into the right side of the race car. Destroyed the front pax door, rear pax door, side skirt and rear fender, scratched up the rear bumper and bent a new wheel.

I don't have an insurance company. I can't touch it up. It won't buff out. Sigh.

Then another incident took the whole brand new front bumper and splitter assembly off the car, destroying it and bent another wheel. All told, there is a lot of damage.

All of this pales in comparison to the damage suffered by Neil Vanni's Honda and Patrick Sharp's Honda, both of which were written off in the same race. No insurance for them, either.

Hopefully, this cheered you up by putting things into perspective. Scratches in paint can easily be fixed. Relax and worry about more important stuff :wink:

Isn't there any way to get insurance for the track? If so, is it expensive or something? I would definatly want liability out there if I hit someone and they were injured to died from my accident.

Insurance for racing on track is cost prohibitive. When I was testing the Barber Dodge Pro cars down in Sebring, on track insurance was $900/day. This was testing, not actual wheel to wheel racing.

I paid for the insurance. Good thing, too, because I lost control in turn 1 at 107mph and stuffed it into the tire barrier at the exit. I had to pay the deductible as well, which was $5,000. It sure beat the $15,000 bill for replacing the right side of the car!

Everyone signs a waiver before going out on track that acknowledges that racing is a dangerous sport, that can result in injury or death, and the signer holds no one responsible. The first time someone successfully sued for wrongful death on the track, it would pretty much end racing as we know it.

Art, does Allstate have such an offering? If so - guessing it's $$$$.

Gary, I hadn't looked into it before, but would guess NASA has insurance for personal injury (I know SCCA covers its members up to $1M); and maybe also site property damage. But personal property damage must be within a 'gentlemens agreement' arrangement.

Sorry Debbie....I have no options at all. Even personal umbrella's won't cover your liabilty when racing.

Even my collector car insurance won't insure cars WHILE racing, but they will while they aren't racing. Say for example, they would insure your car against theft/fire and stuff while in your garage. I just actually insured 3 vintage race cars that will b ready to race soon. Once they are ready and he wants to race them, bye bye insurance. Then when he is ready to park them again, then he can have the insurance again.

There are ways you could get your car insured like a normal car and cheat insurance companies, but let me tell you that insurance investegators are some of the most intelligent people out there. :shock:

I have an arrangement with an insurance carrier where the race car is insured against theft, vandalism and damage during transport. The car is not covered while operating under it's own power, or while parked within the boundaries of a racing surface. Meaning, if I was racing the car and it crapped out and I parked it in the infield and another car crashed into it later while it was parked on course, it wouldn't be covered.

So when the car's not racing, it's covered, and at a very good rate.

Excellent. At least you have that. So basically, when you race, you are just liable for your car itself. Not too bad, just could be costly I guess.

LOL!! Thanks Gary, that honestly does make me feel better.. I'm not worried to much about the scratches... I can touch up and buff them out... She is just my baby and I hate to have her violated when im NOT enjoying her.
