I posted this reply, not sure why it hasn't showed up yet... do "reply" posts get posted publicly, or just to the person that posted the original comment? Quote:

I've had trouble posting replies to comments as well. Not sure why. Considering how much YouTube cost, you would think it would work better......heheh.
Of course, when you post stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJWLP81qCAE , people tend not to e-thug you ;-) |

It was probably the fastest time because Gran Turismo doesn't recognize you hitting a wall if you do it with the back of your car. But I dunno, cuz I'm at work so I didn't watch the vid.
Actually I watched like the first 10 seconds and noticed you hit the outside wall on that hairpin and get no 5 second penalty... |

I was the only one posting video replays. I considered my lap as sort of a protest against GT4 rally in general... no one could catch my crappy lap in part because I used the wall and got lucky with the bounce. And my clean, realistic laps were all way slower too. The point was to just move on and do something where driver skill made more difference than a lucky bounce off the wall. Read all about it starting here: http://www.seccs.org/forums/showthre...7277#post67277 |
Oh I remember. Yeah, that is a dumb aspect of the game. There are sometimes I play and I think to mahself, "Wait, isn't this game supposed to be 'The Real Driving Simulator?'"

But GT has always been *fun*. Realistic enough that it takes real-world skill to be good at it, but arcade enough that it's rarely frustrating. Except for rally. I don't know why, but GT rally licks donkey nuts. GT3 seemed a little better than GT4, and I never really played the rally side in GT1/GT2... but all the rally I have done in the games is no where close to as fun as the tarmac stuff. Part of it is because I use a wheel, and have no chops on the dualshock... you can react and adjust much quicker w/ the DS... especially since I "upgraded" to the 900 deg rotation wheel, which increases your lock-to-lock time by a ton. I'm at the point where I never expect to pass the rally stages of GT4, simply because it pisses me off too much. |
My problem with rally in GT is the invisible walls. I never know which corners I can hang pieces of my car into and subsequently end up bouncing around. . . and of course, the realism that GT has simply disappears the moment you collide with something.

You think that's bad? You should see the responses to my horrid Nurburgring footage...
|
Linky? Is this the one with the Radio Flyer?
|
No and Yes
I may have track footage in my STi soon though. |
OT, but anyone here play Richard Burns rally ? (still?)
