SECCS Event Domination, again!

1 Attachment(s)
So yesterday I rode along with my friend in the CHP at Bridgeport from 1-10pm for fun, and finally got home at 1am this morning. Promptly got up at 5:30am and drove up to the Palomino Valley Gun Club near Pyramid Lake for a Varmint Silhouette rifle match.

As we're setting things up, who should drive up but Brian (NevadaSTi). We get to shoot the bull for a while as things are getting organized, and he tells me that he was the winner of the previous month's match. As we got squadded and reported to our stations, it was with the sobering charge that it was up to us to represent and continue the trend of SECCS Domination.

I was feeling a bit unsure about my likely performance, as I had never shot a match of that format before. Also, I am pretty new to Standing/Sitting positional competition. Brian had just mounted a new scope on his gun, so the odds were long of either of us pulling a win out.

Ignoring the odds, we both soon warmed up during the Standing relays, dusting steel squirrels, crows, rabbits, woodchucks, and coyotes from ranges between 100 and 210 yards. Halfway through the match, I discovered that I was in a dead heat with two others for 1st place.......no pressure.....!

The Sitting portion of the match went by quickly, but it wasn't clear until the very last minute who was ahead. In the end, I was placed in a sudden-death shootoff at the 175 yard rabbits for both High Sitting and Overall. Fortunately, I made the winning shot and kept the SECCS streak alive.

Brian and I want to wear our hoodies next time.

Nice work.

MPREZIV 2007-07-14 07:44 PM

Awesome! "SECCS will surely out drive your car club... and if not, we'll SHOOT YOU!!!"

^^New club motto right there!

and you guys have fun wearing your hoodies out in this F*ing heat!

sperry 2007-07-14 07:54 PM

Nice work guys! Way to represent.

And who shoots a woodchuck at 210 yards?

JC 2007-07-14 08:09 PM

Kick ass man!

Delta Farce, or Pale Ghost works for me. LOL.

I had a great time. My new scope worked out pretty well. With Scotty spotting for me, we quickly got it zeroed in. It only took 14 shots. LOL. Not quite used to the scope yet, but I will get there.

Attached below is my scores from last months event. Total domination. Today, I think I am was about 5th place. Not guite sure, but I don't remember hearing very many scores that were better then mine. I busted a 20/40. Scotty won with a 26/40 IRRC.

Congrats Scotty. (Sperry, we need a couple of SECCS hats for next month. I do believe our hoodies will be a little too warm!)

I'd say with you guys and Hawaii brothers SECCS would have a great chance at surviving zombie infestation.

Well, you get to shoot at the each type of target 8 times. IRRC, I only those bastards once. They are actually one of the harder targets to hit. They are tall and skinny, and extremely easy to pull your shot off to the left or right.

Next weekend is a Military Silhouette shoot. Similar format, but the distances are 500m, 350m, 220m, and 100m. The guy who runs it told us that the Ram at 500m weights in at 60 pounds, and you have to nock it over to get a point.

If anyone has a WW2 type military rifle still in Military configuration, you're more than welcome to come hang out and try your luck. :)

No, No...

"Mess with SECCS, die like the wabbits... at 175 yards!"

Now that baby just rolls off the tongue...

HEHE, I posted this in the wrong thread.

Second place.

Kevin M 2007-08-13 12:15 PM

Bad day for Scotty looks like. Nice job Brian!

NevadaSTi 2007-08-13 12:20 PM

Scotty choose to place himself at a disadvantage to gain experience with a rifle for a different event. He was shooting a bone stock AR-15 with open (battle) sights. With those battle sights, it's rather difficult to hit something the size of an apple at 100m. Let along the damn Wood Chucks at 150m, they are the size of an Arizona Ice Tea can.

It would be harder if the Woodchucks could shoot back. ;)

Dean 2007-08-13 04:54 PM

You know what they say about second place. :)

Seriously, good job both of you. I'm actually impressed with the battle sight mode.

I'd like to go shooting with you guys at some point if they allow guests. I'll buy the ammo. That is what I did with buddies in TN who took me out for skeet, or was it trap shooting? Whatever it is with one thrower basically close to you.

And the woodchucks can't shoot back because they don't make itty bitty guns with any real stopping power at that range, and they could never get past the security check without a state issued ID. :P

Now if the woodchucks had paw grenades, that would be a different story!

ScottyS 2007-08-13 09:32 PM

DIE CHUCKS DIE!!!!!

Haha, it was not easy to break 20 with the A2. A really good day, considering the odds. Good shooting Brian, that 28 would be tough to beat. We stuck around a little after the match, and Mark let us shoot that .308 with a suppressor on it --- very fun. Afterwards I smacked the 500m Ram a few times with the A2 just for kicks.....

That was the last Varmint match of the year, but there are some Military Silhouette matches that we will both probably shoot for a couple months yet. Darn, and I was going to shoot my wife's superlight AR with the Eotech on it for the next one too!

NevadaSTi 2007-08-14 06:55 AM

Too bad I didn't have my 264wm out there. I would have loved to smack that 500m Ram with it a couple times.

You gonna make the next Military Silhouette shoot, Scotty?

Yeah that 308 was pretty nice. He was shooting at the same time I was, and he kept getting 5/5 from sitting, and I was getting 4/5's. Grrr.
