What's the most famous turn in motorsports?
The contenders:
Eau Rouge - Spa/Francorchamps, Belgium http://www.jacques.villeneuve.com/ne...ouge-large.jpg The Corkscrew - Laguna Seca, Monterey, CA http://www.corgifan.com/blogger/americanflyers2.jpg The Karussell- Nurburgring Nordschleife, Nurburg Germany http://img.stern.de/_content/53/13/5...DW0041_500.jpg The Masta Kink - Old Spa Course, Belguim (infamous for killing drivers and spectators in crashes over the years, and the reason Jackie Stewart revolutionized F1 safety in the '60's) http://www.forix.com/8w/6thgear/masta-kink.jpg Turn 4 - Darlington Superspeedway, Darlington, SC http://www.experiencenascar.com/darl...eldinTurn4.jpg Flugplatz - Nurburgring Nordschleife, Nurburg Germany http://www.john-w.de/bmwf2/lola_02.jpg The Hairpin - Monaco, Monte Carlo http://atlasf1.autosport.com/99/mon/...monaco98-4.jpg Anyone else have suggestions? Esses - Circuit De Le Sarthe, Le Mans, France (thanks Matt!) http://www.oldsarumflyingclub.co.uk/...lop_bridge.jpg 130R - Suzuka, Japan (thanks Pat!) http://response.jp/feature/2001/0316.../suzuka_04.jpg ...and the obvious one I forgot to post: Parabolica - Monza, Italy http://www.of1.ru/modules/photo/gale...za_banking.jpg |
Why Darlington as a generic and not Daytona, or Indy?
I think your first two are probably the most well known "named" corners. Can it really be that famous if it isn't named? |
I would have to say Eau Rouge or the hairpin at Monaco as being the most recognized in the world! However, the "S" after the dunlop bridge at Le Sarthe in Le mans is a very famous and well photographed section of the circuit.

180R has to be right up there-- I don't recall any autox courses featuring Eau Rouge or the Corkscrew...
|
Good point there Patrick.

I picked turn 4, but it might be turn 2... whichever one is the tighter one... they swapped the front and back straights a while back, and I don't remember if the tighter end is 1-2, or 3-4. Either way, it's so notorious they call it "the Lady in Black". |
its not super famous but i always hear about turn 9 on willow springs and the crashes there.

How about that kink in 4th street?............you know the one where all the hookers hang out.

Not surprisingly, Laguna Seca is way out in front. |
What a bunch of Sheep. Eau Rouge and Monaco are way mo famous than the 'screw. Of course, I haven't voted in your poll.
|
Also, Eu Rouge is much more famous than Eau Rouge.

The hairpin in Monaco... because it's the only one I've driven on... in a Renault diesel rental car. ;)
Although... Dead Man's Curve near Clifton, VA is pretty rad too. I wonder if that big oak is still there. |
Don't you forget it.
